XP hit indicators?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:00 am

Still too CODish for me. I don't know how that makes ppl feel like they are doing anything for their team, you should know if you are hitting them or not. While I'm not expecting a huge amount of realism, i think it brings it that much closer to arcadish.

XP hit indicators have nothing to do with your team.

The indicator is just a extension to assist kills. It's not needed, but without it you probably wouldn't be given xp per hit, as well as the kill/assist exp.

I'm not getting on these forums anymore tonight. I read more about effin call of duty then BRINK on the BRINK boards. Everything is too call of dutyish. Not CODish enough. It needs theatre mode. It needs kill cam. Give it kill streaks. NO DONT LET YOUR GUY RUN PEOPLE RUN IN COD!!! It needs a chopper gunner. Where are the attack dogs? I'm only going to play the game on the PC but I don't want the people on the xbox to even have a smidge of aim assist even though it's not going to effect me at all except for on thanksgiving when I play at my cousin's house. The guns are too accurate. They need to shake all over the place when I shoot like an old man with cerebral palsy trying to pee during an earth quake. The mini gun shouldn't really be a mini gun it should just be a glorified SMG so I don't pee myself when I see a heavy carrying one while I'm playing as a light. Whenever I don't understand something I call it arcadish. This complicated math problem is really arcadish and gaudy and I don't like it. It's not simple and streamlined like call of duty.

Write paul wedgwood a letter if you don't like it. But he's too busy making a game that's gonna make call of duty Blops look like rogue warrior. I don't care how many "units" it sold.

Well put, I was just thinking the other day if the devs saw how bad the kiddies ideas and complaints were and if it made them sad. Went and played some old SD games, they were always better than anything COD or BF ever was or will be.

The xp indicator works in the same respect as it does in BC2. When you earn xp, it pops up under the crosshairs - I don't see the problem.

some people don't want to see imaginary exp numbers on their screen....bit hypocritical given if you take the rest of the hud away they'd complain like mofo's.

I think you should be able to to customize the whole thing and not have anything on screen not even bullet count if you don't want it. In every game.

This is planned for BF3. This idea is becoming much more mainstream. I hope it can be in Brink.

It's what I liked about dead space. All HUDs were in game.

Even though the "explanation" was rather odd. Isaac has this massive helmet on, but still everything is displayed into the air infront of him? (I know they did that to allow the player to see it too.)
In a FPS, an on-scree-hud makes sense, tho, if your avatar wears some gear which allows a hud-display (like in Halo, where you play that guy with his massive helmet).

And in BRINK I don't see a proper way to put the HUD "into the game" properly, without a Pip-Boy-esque device.

Maybe the helmet was making you see the holograms in front of you. Who knows. But good point. There should be more games where things are just more detailed. Or realistic. Like you just need to know how much ammunition a weapon holds. And when you're out then you're out. I like it when things are simple like that. But if something has a screen nearby or is computerized you should be able to use it to navigate and look things up without it being too convoluted. HUDs are pretty much clutter in general though.

Dead Space is also a single player game, so having the HUD elements in game, is a lot easier to do. In a game like Brink, where players need constant real-time updates on the status of the game, teammates and themselves, simply displaying info on-screen, all the time, is the best way to go. The only other option that seems feasible, is having the HUD linked to a button - you hit /hold said button, and the info is displayed on-screen, like a traditional HUD. You hit it again/release it, and it disappears.

It was possible to do that in ETQW with a certain Cvar. If they didn't throw that out of the engine, then you will be able to bind it to a key. In W:ET it was something like:

Bind x cycle draw2d 0 1

No. He has a small device on the chestpiece of his armour which produces the holo-display.

So to understand this....every enemy hit will give me a hit indicator with xp amount? Is this correct? If this is the case I love it because it will show me that my bullets are hitting the target. Now does this apply to every hit or just the final hit? So, if I hit some one twice I would get 25 xp per hit....or just 25 for the kill? Thanks

Pure gold right here; sigging that when I get home for sure. I also completely agree with you, brought up some valid points; people just love to complain. But hey, you can't blame them; they just want to this game to be what it's been cracked up to be, don't you?

It's more like 1~25 XP per hit (depending on weapon damage; a SMG would deal 1 per hit, a shotgun 1 per pellet, a Long Rifle ~25 per hit).
A 25XP bonus if you incapacitate a player.
Again damage XP when you shoot an incapacitated player and again bonus XP if you kill him.

Incapped is when you are out of the fight and can either be revived or join the respawn wave. IF some kills you while you are incapped you are dead and join the spawn wave.

Maybe we should get rid of sights and foregrips and extended mags because they are all in Call of Duty. Perhaps they should get rid of guns all together. Call of Duty had guns.

Maybe you should stop worrying that a SINGLE element from one shooter is in another, and just accept the fact that Brink is going to be amazing, but it WILL have some things in common with CoD because they are both shooters.

Besides, an XP indicator isn't going to change gameplay at all. It is purely aesthetic.
