Uploading OMOD Conversion Data permissions...?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 11:35 am

My motivation for this question is a post I saw in the thread for Ren's Beauty Pack because Ren is long gone. I have a few other OMOD scripts I want to upload, but the authors (or someone related) is still around. Are there any special steps I need to take for this. Credit on the description page is a give. I just want to make sure I'm not stepping on anyone's toes, per say...

Edit: Oh, and I meant to ask about COBL as well. I haven't received an answer to the "Is COBL OMOD-ready?" question. Has Wrye said "no" or something? I do not use OBMM to install it, and I currently have the Apachii Goddess Store downloading (for the next hour and a half at least...)

I don't see any permissions needed for posting OMOD scripts and BCFs, as long as you aren't including the original files with it. After all, they're both just forms of meta-data.

As a matter of fact, BCFs were coded deliberately to not need permissions. They don't contain any of the author's files (unless the BCF was poorly made), require that you download the author's files yourself, etc. All a BCF boils down to is a list of instructions of how to move the files around, and any files that you added yourself.

OTOH, it would be decent manners to attempt a quick PM or email just to let them know about it.

Thank you for the reply. Now I just have to learn about BCF's and the BAIN wizard...

Edit: Does someone know if COBL is OMOD-ready?

Yes, COBL is OMOD-ready, and it's packaged for BAIN installation as well.

Okay, there are just a ton of confused, un-trying users posting at TESNexus then. If someone would put that in the description, that might reduce a lot of confusion. (They think they need to use BAIN, and that makes a lot of :()

Perhaps, but it was pretty easy to tell. The archive has the omod conversion data folder in it :)

I'm sure I need not say it, but BAIN is the better method for installing it. Lots of stuff to keep track of and OBMM does a piss poor job of that sort of thing.

I agree, but many an "average" user would disagree. I wish users would just try making the OMOD before posting questions like that...
