Yup, another discussion thread, I think this one could be interesting.

So, what are your views on popularity with modders? I think for the most part it's a good thing, until it becomes a problem.

My personal opinion on it is that it's great, but it can really be a problem sometimes. When I first joined the community, I always wanted to be a really popular guy, along with all the other big names up there, and now that my mods spark a lot of interest on the forums, I can say it's not necessarily a good thing. Sure, you'll get nice feedback and everything, people will like you and your mods, but you get the hordes of fans who will go into your WIP threads with posts like "any updates" etc. etc. when your really busy working on other things. Sure, most of it's good, but sometimes, all I want is for people to download my mods! Even with my threads often capping, getting a lot of views etc. my mods often tend to sink under the radar after a few days of them being released.

Anyways, what's your opinion on the matter, you have mine, now tell me yours.

Modding popularity, Is it good to be popular?

No. You'll only be as good as your last mod and rarely can you recreation the magic that made you popular.

Good point. I do agree, it's not good to be popular in this aspect.

I really don't see this topic going anywhere good. It has too high of a potential to single out some modders for good or bad, as popularity contests and discussions tend to do. Which would go down a predictable path.
