Is the Morrowind Community Dying? Will we die?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:56 am

Interesting how almost every long thread on the Morrowind forums eventually turns into a let's bash Oblivion thread. I call it Fargoth's law.

:biglaugh: I like that.

(I like the Fargoth joke, not that OB gets bashed)

Then people will just use the older version, now, with XP, Vista, and Seven, I STILL say a modded XP is best.

XP is outdated to me.

Its easier to hack XP.

I agree, this is not a "Let's bash Oblivion" thread, it's about the future of the game. Stop bashing Oblivion. :stare:

Easy by margin if you know how to set it up I'd say. Almost every security program for Vista has like an open source correspondence for XP. XP is still my preferred OS as well. Especially the very tiny special versions like 60mb versions which you can then tweak and download/fix your own security as you like it yourself =)

Also, why would hackers target XP in the future when 80% is using vista/windows 7 ?

And Marbred, I'd think something along the lines of a DOSBox kinda thing would be made if that ever happened. Or we could use something like Wine, though that has it's own problems. I don't think a new version of windows will bring an end to Morrowind modding.

Windows 7 comes with its own Windows XP Virtual Emulation software built-in, so you can run XP off of 7 out of the box.

He means hacking in the sense of modding. The XP modding community was one community I participated in before getting into Morrowind.

I was talking about a 'what if' scenario, not Windows 7, though I really should try it out. ^_^

My belief is that communities are reflections of the normal organic beings they are comprised of. Much like any human agency, it will ebb and flow, have moments of white-hot brilliance, long periods of dormancy. etc.

Many beleive that there is a Renaissance of modding coming up, based on what I have seen this is at least partially true. New programming and technologies being used, the graphics are as good as, if not surpassing Oblivion at this point. Conversions are possible, OpenMW shows massive potential once it is up and running. Artists like Plangkye and Westly show only awesome consistent work, programmers like Fliggerty and Peachykeen rewrite the definition of 'impossible' on a nearly daily basis. Weaponsmiths like Vagabond Angel and Dragon Lance provide us with better weapons, Connary and Quorn and Darknut have made our games look better then ever.

Dying? If so, this is one hell of a last gasp.
