Keep in Area

How can I make it so that enemies cannot follow the player into a certain area? For example, preventing monsters from leaving the Chapel Undercroft into the main Chapel. I could use activators placed as doors, but that would require scripting, using Marks, a lot of If statements... Is there another way I could do it?

Set the monsters' intelligence to below 30, and they will not be able to use doors.
