Real time decomposition

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:49 am

I would be traveling trough the vast roads of Cyrodiil and would get attacked by a bandit, I would slaughter them like always and continue on to the next city, but when I walk past the same area like a week later and that same corpse that I killed and looted is still there. So I was wondering if real time decomposition would be something that people would like to implemented into Skyrim. Maybe even bring back the Morrowind style where you can dispose of the corpse.

Or maybe even use a giant flamethrower to incinerate the corpse :flamethrower:
(lol jk  )

Extremely doubtful. Even if it were doable, and BGS had enough time to implement it - which I can't see them doing - I simply don't believe it matches the tone they want for Skyrim.

Real time decomposition is a bit much right now. I can imagine there being a few stages between normal and strait up bones that they could have the character switch between after a certain amount of time. If they did this for humanoid characters It would be sweet. Doing it for all creatures as well would be crazy but doubtful even though it would be cool coming back to a cave you slaughtered earlier to find the bones of all you slayed.

EDIT: WOO I got a star :)

It's very doubtful because of the variables involved. You can talk about realistic decomp time, but for where? Is the body left in a pond? Is it in the ice? Is it in a warm, humid spot? All those things would affect decomp. To do anything less would be unrealistic.

I would be happy with a more genaric decomposition system like I mentioned in my first post. Most people wouldent be too worried about the different factors in decomposition and moreso on the fact that there is some form of it.

It would be nice to at least be able to get rid of the corpse.

I was working on a mod for NV that did exactly this. I never finished it but it is entirely possible just takes time

One of my mods for Oblivion spawns mini carrion rats around corpses afer some time has passed - I would be happy with that.

Yea I can understand that the implementation of real time decomposition would be to complicated but I think eventually I would love to see it.

But for now they should make it so you can dispose of the corpse like in morrowind or even just have it disappear over time like someone would come and clean up corpses on the road. You just wouldn't see it ever happening I guess lol

I think, at best, we can have only:
level 1: fresh corpse
level 2: flies with fresh corpse
level 3: skeleton
level 4: corpse cleared

Like I said in today's other "decomposing corpses" thread: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1165803-corpses/

To all asking for decomposition, I've got one question- given the overall climate in Skyrim, and that freezers are used to slow or stop decomposition, how long would it take a body in the northern part of Skyrim to decompose, hmm? ;)

I want people in towns to do something about dead bodies when they show up. Corpses left in the wilderness might get eaten up, maybe when you're not looking. Decomposing bodies might be tricky.

Corpsicles! :teehee:

You know I bet the Ogres even have "flavor names" for the different races they find frozen along the road.

I agree and I think it would be great to combine this with decomposition and the new job aspect I keep hearing so much about. For instance, I want to be able to kill someone, then hack them up into tiny little bits and stuff them in a sack with all the other corpses that I would otherwise have left in my wake. I'll then head into town, where I've built a nice compost pile to which I shall add the meat-bits before I go about maintaining my rose garden. Thereby disposing of the corpses, enhancing the interactivity of my living space AND spending hours role-playing a socio/psychopathic gardener all at once. Perhaps I could sell my corpse flowers at market and make enough money to afford my mortgage.

Would they think an Altmer was a "Golden Ticket" to Willy Wonka's factory? :D

Would love to be able to put an empty body in my inventory and go bury the NPC either at the graveyards or somewhere in the wild. Body should have realistic weight depending on height and build. Maybe in a deserted house in the wild, I could have my own personal graveyard? :) When you put him into the ground, a wooden cross is raised with some basic inscription where his name is used. As part of "general activities", all you need is a shovel of some sort to dig the grave.

I think it would be cool if they had a few stages of decomp (e.g. barely cold, recently dead, rotting, dessicated husk, skeleton, dust) that were still based on the original parameters of the NPC's face and body (to the extent it's relevant at that stage of decomp). Not so much so I could play a Skyrim version of Bones, but so that zombies and the undead would have the same variety that living people had -- and characters you know could be reanimated as undead and still be vaguely recognizable (say, Radiant AI decides that you pissed off the wrong necromancer). That alone would amp up the horror factor for the undead quite a bit. Plus, we'd finally see Khajit and Argonian skeletons.

And consider that the antagonist in the game is basically Time itself -- now, what you do you think of when you hear: "he chose... poorly"? Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Accelerated mortality magic? Probably too imba to use as a dragon shout, but imagine The Villain or his second-in-command (I would say The Dragon, but that would be confusing) employing it against a youngish supporting character to establish how dangerous he is. Wicked. Although I guess Singularity kinda let you do the same thing.
