[Wip] General Oblivion Expansion Series

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:16 am

Over the last year, I've undertaken a few huge, enormous modding tasks for oblivion. I'd develop an entire story line, new world spaces, massive dungeons, a new race and sometimes an entire culture. Then, somewhere down the line, I'd lose interest and come up with a new idea. This occurred so much within the last year that I almost considered giving up modding entirely. Fortunately, during my trend of doing this I did learn a great bit about quest creation, NPC AI, and those things.

So, my next idea is different from the massive story lines I developed before. Now my goal is to simply add gameplay hours to oblivion by adding more side quests, small towns, and new locations. These quests are not tied together in some huge, complex, and twisty plot as I would have done in the past. Simple, fun, and challenging quests added to oblivion. One final push to give people use out of Oblivion before the next ES comes out.

Each release will be marked by 10 journaled quests, with a variating number of NPCs and new locations. These quests will be simple, and "vanilla" as if they could have been in vanilla oblivion. No gaudy new items, no overpowered armor, I always found these things distasteful.

Will keep this thread updated with all new content to add to Oblivion!

Thanks

Sounds interesting. Perhaps you can add things slightly out of border to accommodate for space. Ever since playing through the Thievery in the Imperial City mod, I've found I really enjoy mods that adds quests and the like that seem vanilla. If you wind up finishing this (which I hope you do), I'll definitely add it to my load order.

However, I don't think you should be adding entire cities. Stick to small towns, or a farming community, but nothing grandiose, like Bartholm or Sutch. I don't want Oblivion to run out of space. ^^

As I said it will mainly be small towns. Nothing bigger than say, hackdirt for example.

Thanks.

Wise decision sir.

i don't know if you're aware of http://http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22751 but it seems similar in concept to what you are proposing. How about making a few settlements/quests in the empty lands on the east of the Niben?

You got my attention. Good idea. I hope your ADD (real or figurative) doesn't get in the way.

I love the idea, and if it is compatible with my other mods, I will install it :)

Having said that, I really agree with demonsshade - Cyrodiil is starting to get quite packed, so any mod which adds anything closer to the borders, or even better, outside them - would be a major plus in my book. Have you looked at mods like http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25023? Getting more quests in that area would be great.

Also, when you add things inside Cyrodiil, please consider BC and UL compatibility as far as possible :)

First town is almost completed, dubbed "Haram" for now. It's an argonian settlement in the heart of blackwood, built on the water. Introduces new concepts such as "vendor stalls" located in the town center which is a large platform that crosses the panther river.

Have two quests written associated with this town.

Screenshots coming soon. :)

Sad. I would have liked to have seen some of this.

Would have been even nicer if we could have persuaded Hiei to release some of the unfinished work from before to let someone else take a crack at finishing them.

Damn, threads can't seem to stay dead today can they :P

Actually I'm not gonna lie, I was really excited by this 'til I saw the "What happened to this" post and realized the original post was timestamped in September -_-
