University of Colorado - Skyrim

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 7:54 am

Hey guys,

I wrote an article about the Elder Scrolls series for my University's newspaper in order to hype everyone up for Skyrim. I think I have all the correct information. Let me know what you think!

That is the web editor's fault. I can't fix it!

Shouldn't you be referring to Bethesda Game Studios and not Bethesda Softworks? BS is just the publisher.

That, and at the end of the article you should specify the year instead of just saying November 11. ;)

Good hype, OP! :goodjob:

It has to be the single most common mistake associated with the company, but IIRC gamesas was actually the developer of both Daggerfall and Arena. This changed somewhere prior to the release/development of Morrowind.

It actually changed prior to the release of Oblivion, they still went by gamesas when they released Morrowind.

EDIT: Or at least I think so, based on the fact that Bethesda Game Studios isn't mentioned on the box or during the opening credits of Morrowind, it just says gamesas. Maybe they called themselves Bethesda Game Studios internally though.

The web editor for the newspaper changed that for some reason. I have to talk to them and try and get it fixed.

My game discs say gamesas as well, and nothing about "game studios" so I'm inclined to agree (and these are originals from '02).

One of the 'Beths' needs to [censored] vanish so that we may forever have this confusion alleviated.

The game is so large that Bethesda claimed it was twice the size of Great Britain.

I'm probably just being picky, but I think this line would sound better if it said something along the lines of "When measured in square feet, the game world in it's entirety comes out to be twice the size of Great Britain."

Sounds more accurate to me, since that really is a fact about the game. Otherwise, great article. :goodjob:

I duno, the wiki says BGS has been around since 85

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bethesda_Game_Studios

Perhaps they were an internal development team only recently broken off as its own things while still flying the banner of BS

Edit: never mind, all is answered.

Besides the two errors already mentioned i'd say you only made one other mistake. Your sales statistics are from 2006. Since you can't really get anything else to go by it should be reworded to say it sold more than 1.7 millions copies in the first year after release.

There's some redundancy, and some of the sentences could've been structured in a better way, but that's a good article. Nice work!

Re: The name debate.

They were known as Bethesda Softworks (gamesas for short) when Morrowind came out. The company has been around since well before that. They are currently known as Bethesda Game Studios.

Technically they didn't change their name. They split into two separate entities, a developer(Bethesda Game Studios) and a publisher(Bethesda Softworks).
