Only issue is it cant carry as much, and its probablly easier to stela connsidering you have nowhere to put it.

That is a valid point, considering he'll be trekking through several countries. But if Ewan McGregor could do it, I don't see why not anyone else. He went across the whole world. OP only wants to cross Europe.

... Theives are everywhere, a motorbike outside would be easy for them to steal in the night, and probablly worth a good bit, then your stuck in somehwere like Germany with no bike, unless you can use the trains and know what they are saying where to get on/off.

Public transport or a car would be easier, uless the hotels have somewhere they could store your bike, but I havent heared of that so I doubt it.

To be honest though, you're taking just as much risk with a car as a bike. Both can be stolen. Cars are usually worth more, so even more incentive. In which case my previous idea of renting makes sense. Just pay the insurance fee, and you're set, even if it is stolen.

I've always thought that public transit was the best option whenever you're visiting a country. You give up some freedom and some time, but gain financially (relatively speaking) and get better opportunities to immerse yourself in the culture. Plus, you get to bypass the most annoying feature of driving in a busy city - parking. There is almost always a bus, subway, or train that will take you semi-direct straight to the action, and you don't have to fight a crowd to park in a cramped street 5 blocks away and still potentially face the hazards of paying for parking and vandalism/theft. Heck, even just acquiring a vehicle upon arrival could set you back a few days on your journey. But I admit, the freedom that comes with driving is enticing, and I don't want to say that either route is folly, because either will work. It'll be your choice to determine which of the myriad options will suit you best and bring you optimum enjoyment.

One thing, though. Don't ever look back at a trip and wish you'd done something different - those thoughts will ruin what would otherwise be fantastic memories.

It would be more effort (and noise) for them to break into a car, a bike not so much.

Yeah, I just thought about having to carry stuff on a bike. Difficult.

And I'm most likely going to get lost in major cities, so do Gps's fit on bikes or will I have to carry around each individual map for every major city I pass through...

I'm sure you could strap a GPS somewhere on a bike, and if not, just put it in your storage
