Bioware VS Bethesda

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 8:34 pm

Which do you prefer?Bioware or Bethesda Game Studios(not to be confused with Bethesda softworks).I personally think Bethesda are much better than Bioware but Bioware are still brilliant at making rpgs.
By the way whichever you prefer you might want to vote for them http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/539.272648-Round-4-1-BioWare-vs-2-Bethesda if you want them to win.
Incase some of you never heard of Bioware here are some details for you:
BioWare is a Canadian video and engine developer consisting of four studios: BioWare Edmonton, BioWare Austin, BioWare Mythic, and BioWare Montreal. BioWare has developed for several platforms including Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. Its notable roleplaying franchises include Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age.

There's already a thread I made about it http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1173790-developer-showdown/, but there doesn't seem to be as much interest as last year.

I like Bioware, but I love Bethesda. I enjoyed Mass Effect, KOTOR etc... but none of them have the place in my heart that TES and FO do.

I prefer the vast open gaming and freedom provided by Bethesday over BioWare's story driven RPGs. Bethesda games also have much longer shelf life on my computer than BioWare, which lasts about 3-5 characters for about 50ish hours of game per playthrough. With Bethesda games, I have ~300+ hours per character, and I have made plenty of characters.

Mass Effect (1&2) and KOTOR are great, but DF, MW, and OB has aged better, imo.

What does Bioshock have to do with BioWare, except for "Bio"?

I like some of Bioware's games, but from what I've been reading lately I don't think I'll like them anymore as long as they're affiliated with EA.

And I own all of Beth's games, so that says something.

I think they are both really good game makers, Bethesda is more into traditional RPG's while Bioware's are more of a hack and slash (especially now with Dragon Age 2) and shooter games with RPG elements. But I believe EA is dragging Bioware down.

I prefer Bethesda's RPGs over any other company. While Bioware seems to have a deeper story in some of their games, Bethesda's games cant be matched in the amount of "epicness."

Let's see...

Bethesda:
  • Daggerfall - cool
  • Morrowind - AWESOME
  • Oblivion - meh
  • Fallout 3 - meh

BioWare:
  • SW:KOTOR - AWESOME
  • Jade Empire - cool
  • Mass Effect - AWESOME
  • Dragon Age: Origins - AWESOME
  • Mass Effect 2 - cool
  • Dragon Age II - cool

Well... BioWare.

Sorry, I was under the impression that it was developed by Bioware, probably because of the "bio".
