How do you pronounce Skyrim?

What? It's pronounced sear-o-dil, not kear-o-dil.

The only thing I've had trouble pronouncing in TES ever was Gnisis. I always said "Ginnis", but then I heard the Silt Strider guy say the correct way.

I have a habit of pronouncing (and writing) Vvardenfell as Vvanderfell.

Most people around here (lower Eastern States in the US) seem to pronounce Iron as "eye-urn", and not as "eye-ron" (like in Irony * eye-ron-ee).

I've never heard it pronounced eye-ron either. Upper east here.

One thing I've had trouble with is Boethia. In Morrowind, I could swear it was Bo-thy-uh, but in Oblivion it's Bo-ee-thee-uh.

Also, though it wasn't a BGS game, Fallout New Vegas made me happy because the people in Caesar's Legion pronounced Caesar like the Romans do, Kye-zar, while everyone else pronounced it the other way, See-zer.

As the only person who could correctly pronounce Hermione Granger's name correctly among my friends, until the movie came out, I'm proud to admit that I pronounce it Sky-rim. Skeerim is a game played at amusemant parks for cheap toy prizes.

Wrothgarian threw me a little until the Orc in Bruma said it.

If we can get 7 pages out of Skyrim, we can get 20 or 30 out of Daedra.

'Just like it's spelled' is a pretty bad argument to all of you who used that one. It pretty much depends on which part of the world you're from. It's rather presumptuous to think everybody's first language is English?

This being a fantasy game, it would also be reasonable to presume not all pronunciation is based on the English language. Skyrim being a northern country, roughly based off of the Nordic cultures, I thought it was pronounced [skiirim], and was also pretty sursprised when I heard it pronounced [skye-rim].

Up until this thread I had been pronouncing Cyrodiil [syro-dill]. Never would've guessed it was pronounced as a K. =)

It depends more on the language being used for the discussion.

Sky-rim.
Yeah, it's exactly how it's spelled.

And all you had to do was hear Todd say it in one of the interviews. :P

Personally Sky-Rim made sense on how its said.

You're in a very mountainous area that you can probably from the throat of the world see the "Rim" of the "Sky". Which is a fancy way of seeing the spherical hemisphere.

And I never knew that some people pronounced Iron as eye-ron. I find that wierd.

Also How do you pronounce Vivec? Is it Viv-vec or Vee-vec, or V-eye-vec

"Viv-eck", prounce viv as it is in vivid. Skyrim sounded kind of stupid to me, maybe if the word's Sky and Rim had a space between them and was written as Sky Rim then I would have prounced it as that. Skeer-Im sounds better in my opinion, Skyrim sound's stupid but since its official I have started saying it.

I always pronounced it Skee-rim, since all the NPCs in my Oblivion pronounce it that way (I got the German version).

Now that the game is announced as Sky-rim I wonder how they will pronounce it this time in the German version.

I wanted it to be pronounced /skyr?m/ (/y/ is like the u in French), but I figured it would be pronounced /skair?m/.
