Quest ID doesn't show up

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:01 am

I have a small problem and I hope someone can help me with it. I've come to the point in creating a quest where I need to add a greeting for the NPC which gives the quest. According to the CS wiki, I need to "move it to the quest I'm creating". It's ID is 1AAquestTTKcmod. However, when I click "Move to quest..." I get a list of quest ID's but my quest ID doesn't show up in the list. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Without this greeting working properly in cooperation with the quest, there's no chance to complete it.

I think there are issues with starting the names of such things with a number.... might wanna alter that, and see if it fixes it.

This. When you start an ID with a number, the game thinks it's supposed to look for a Form ID instead of an Editor ID.

Is there a way to change the quest ID? I've spent a long time figuring out where to put all the data and settings so It would be a pain in the you know what to delete the quest and start all over again if you can't change the quest ID.

Double-click slowly on the ID in the list in the quest window, and it will become editable. It is just like renaming a file in Windows Explorer. You will have to update any scripts that name the quest by its ID to use the new name and re-save them, but you will not have to start over.

Thank the Nine for that! But stupid of me to not think about that. Especially since I do know of that option. But I only thought about the "Right-click --> Edit" thing like with weapons and all that stuff but quests don't have such an option.

In general: Thanks for all your help, people.

To forum moderators: I'll request a lock when I get back home today so please don't delete this topic until then. Thanks in advance.

Go easier on yourself. The CS is basically a deep fryer for the human brain. :D

That's what I thought when I tried my hand at modding a long time ago with the beginners lessons on http://www.cs.elderscrolls.com/ but even with that information, I wasn't even able to add the freaking room of the first or second lesson to the Wawnet Inn. I've never tried modding until I watched 15 minutes of Youtube videos which resulted in the release of Aleswell Manor three days later on http://www.tesnexus.com/ . The maker of the videos also placed his house in Aleswell so that seemed a good place to begin. When I actually succeeded in making a decent mod, I never stopped modding again. The CS aint that hard to understand if you have a good video tutorial for your first mod ever.

Again, to the forum moderators: I'll have had enough time to copy the contents of this topic by 16:30u Dutch time which is in three hours and seven minutes from now. At that time, the topic can be locked and deleted. Thanks in advance.

I have copied the contents of this topic by now. This topic can now be locked and deleted unless a forum moderator feels the need to keep this topic on the forum. :biggrin:

Then they might as well keep almost every topic around like the v1 and v2 of my TES3 Bloodmoon werewolf questions. But I think that those are deleted. To make sure I can always look into the information again, I usually copy the contents of a topic to a word document.

By the way, I found out that I might have used the wrong editor for topics. Even though I have removed the number in front of the quest ID and changed the quest ID everywhere else it was used, I still couldn't get the quest shown in the list. Now that I actually follow the click by click tutorial to the letter, I found out that they meant the filtered dialogue editor instead of the topics editor of the quest editor (Lots of "editor" in there. ;p). Now I have managed to get a quest shown in the list. Maybe if I use the filtered dialogue editor, my own quest will work out just fine. ;p

To forum moderators: Something happened with the quest so I hope the lifetime of this topic can be extended a little more. And if this topic has indeed got the by HeyYou suggested usefulness, feel free to to convert this topic into something worthy of the name guide or anything like that.

============================================================================================================

To make sure it works I made a new test quest following the click by click tutorial on http://www.cs.elderscrolls.com/ to the letter and I found out that the quest can be started and that you can get the sword you had to retrieve for Varnado. However, when you get back to The Best Defense, the topic of the Family Sword is no longer present so you're unable to complete the quest. Has anyone got any idea on how to solve that? I already tried making the sword owned by the player because when I picked it up during the first test I actually stole it instead of just picking it up but that didn't change anything. And in Oblivion, I'm more of a quester (Also in a certain English MMORPG.) than a quest maker so help would be appreciated.

Check the conditions for the dialog option you are missing. If you used quest stage == some number, as soon as stage advances, that will no longer be true. (just poking in the dark here, as I have no idea how you did things.)
