Artifacts in arena

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 7:12 am

I got the first map to a dungeon to get the ring of phynaster, and to my understanding, there should be another map in on the fourth level in the dungeon you were led to by the map you bought.

6 hours later, I have about every room from every floor, and on the fourth level I have pretty much searched everywhere. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to look? Or is it possible that the map may by a glitch not appear?

any advice would be helpful

(The following is from memory. I haven't played Arena in a long, long time.)

It'll be in a chest that's placed on the last level of the dungeon where the stairway to yet another level would be placed if there was one. Always. With a mage character I used to go there in a straight line through a custom passwall spell: three passwall 10 effects in a row, resulting in a 30-block remover.

Good times, good times.

Anyway, you should notice that in those random dungeons, the stairway tiles are about at the same place. In the most frequent dungeon type (from what I remember), they were both straight in the center vertically speaking (north-south map axis) and about in the quarter and three quarter position along the horizontal/east-west axis. When you get out of the west stairway, head straight east; and inversely go to the west when you're on the east stairway.

On the bottommost dungeon floor (or topmost tower floor), instead of a new stairway, you'll find in the special tile a chest. Open it, and you've got your map.

Correct!

"Pretty much," eh? ;) Therein I would guess lies your issue.

I have never had it glitch, and that's saying something. As Gez says, look for a brown and gold treasure box; the map will be therein. Sometimes it can be hard to find due to darkness; you'd think you would see it, but in fact it's hiding in a shadow. It helps to have a Light spell (Wanderlight isn't as helpful as you might think). However, I find I must contradict the estimable Gez on the location of that box; it is never where the "missing" stairwell down would be. In fact, every dungeon construct has seeded locations where there might be treasure, and the box will be in one of those locations. There are too many locations to attempt to identify them unless one has eternal life or something; however, all 32 (I think it was) dungeon blocks have been mapped (ahem) and are on the UESP Wiki, if that helps.
