Down Ranking

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:02 am

First off, i know this has probably been said before, but the search function on this site isn't very good. See what i did there, i wanted to say horrible but i didn't cus im classier than that.

I know if your a low level guy and you want to play with some friends who are in the next level bracket you just hope in and not have the abilities you would have had had you leveled up. But what about going down a bracket? If on release night me and a friend get a head start compared to our other friends cus we gonna be first in line motha (censored)'s, if we're level 7 for example and the rest of our friends are just starting out, how do we play with them in the lower brackets? Or can they only play with us?

If it were up to me i'd just downrank the character automatically and take away any abilities they accumulated after the highest possible rank for that bracket. So if we were level 7 and I was an engineer who wanted to play with level 1 friends I would lose my turret, mine, or w/e else I gained after level 4.

Again, i know this has probably been brought up before.

According to the last info I heard, everyone will stay the level they are. However they will be brought up to fight in your bracket. So since level 7 is rank 2, they will fight rank 2 people and be at a slight disadvantage.

The other option of course is to have different characters.

So if I'm playing with some friends and I gain more exp than them and I rank up to level 5 and into the next bracket, they now have to possibly play against level 9's if they want to play with me?

Playing down you lose your higher abilities.

You can play up if you feel you are up to the challenge.

You will not downrank per se. You will lose your high level abilities, but you still retain your level and Rank.

Logically, it would be a very jerk maneuver to lose all of your Rank 5 stuff just to play with your friend, who is in Rank 2.

When I say downranking I don't mean losing it I mean my character will be down ranked to the level of the people in my party when we go into games. I kno it's not permanent.

My bad. Then yes, you will still be listed as having a higher level/Rank than your friends. You just won't have the abilities of your level/Rank.

Good question. Not sure. Would assume it's based off the party leader or the majority of players in said party. Hopefully there will be an option to select what bracket you want to play in.

Thinking more into, i'm almost positive there will be an option for you to choose which rank of play you want to go into. I'm not gonna go looking for the article but the devs have said that you can choose to play with higher ups even if you are a level 1. The main word being choose so I would assume there will be an option for the brackets.

Pretty sure the player who's low-ranked would have to specifically set a "let me play higher-level people" option, otherwise the higher ranked players will be scaled down.

The game doesn't scale low-ranking players up - that would let you skip the whole process of leveling. It does allow you to opt in on playing high-ranking players without having the abilities to match though.
