Please Help! New Modder dealing with bugs!

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:00 pm

I am currently using the CS 1.2.4 version as well as the oblivion.exe patch. I'm trying to create my first quest. I have watched several tutorials and followed the step on the wiki. No matter what I do whenever i try to create dialogue either for an NPC or for a quest, it locks down. it offers to let me debug it but i don't know where to begin with all that. I am running Win 7 x64. I have tried it on windows vista and win xp SP3. Still the same error everytime. It lets me create a new topic, but when i go to add the dialogue for the topic it locks down. it does the same thing if i try to edit a pre-existing topic. Please help in anyway you can. If you need anymore info let me know. I'm willing to get screenshots step by step if necessary. Thanks in advance.

If you mean it's locking up while you are trying to load Oblivion.esm, depending on your computer it will take a while. The program appears to lock up but just leave it alone and before too long it should respond again. That is ofcourse unless you are making Oblivion.esm the 'Active file'. If you are, do not do this as you don't want to overwrite any vanilla data and it will take an extremely long time to load, it maybe even load for 30 minutes and completely fill up your ram then crash. I made that mistake the first time I opened the CS myself by making it the active file and it never loaded. But once I just took it off the active file, it loaded rather quickly. Granted my machine is fairly powerful, it may take longer on older computers.

EDIT: Upon further inspection of your post, I think you are past loading the data into the CS. Sorry.

I haven't dabbled into quests yet in the CS (but will soon).

You have Windows 7. If you have a mic jack, it causes the CS to CTD on editing Dialogue. Plug a pair of ear-phones into the jack, and try again-- it worked for me.

thanks CDM_ I will have to try that. If anyone is knowledgeable in visual studio debugging let me know. If CDM_'s suggestion doesn't work, that will be my next step. Upon my next post I will give the error codes so that if anyone else is having this same exact problem they will know. Please keep the suggestions coming

No need, the problem is you have a mic that is deactivated in your profile. By plugging in a mic or set of headphones in your mic jack, it will activate the mic in your sound profile and fix the problem.

Thanks everyone, that was the problem. I don't think I would've ever come up with that solution on my own.
