crash related to arrows...

hi friends:

about 80 hrs into a remarkably stable load order - really enjoying playing for long stretches now - easily get a 90-minute game some nights. one thing that seems to be trouble though...


i've got weird things happening with arrows.

i'll have a few in inventory - 14 or so, doesn't matter - and in the inventory screen it shows that i have the arrows equipped. then, when i go to the playing screen, the weapon icon shows the bow, but only 1 arrow. if i try to shoot - it crashes. if i try to deselect the arrow, it crashes. sometimes i have an item called "ptDummyQuiver" and sometimes i don't. it only happens occasionally, so i don't worry about it too much.


any idea what mod or conflict causes this?

Duke Patrick just added some new quiver related functions, but that doesn't sound like an arrow from that and the "pt" items is definitely not his.

Unless it's an interaction between it and Crossbows of Cyrodiil.

Yeah - it was happening before the latest Duke Patrick update, and it was happening before I added Crossbows.

I'll try using Refskope, but like I said, the problem is so intermittent that it might not be present.

The best I can diagnose is that it is somehow related to Unnecessary Violence off-hand weapon on back. I think it takes the quiver slot to display your off-hand weapon, and sometimes in my game it is not switching back...so somehow my bow looks to be firing my off-hand sword - which there is no path for, so it crashes.

Does that make sense? I'll swap the .ini to turn that UV feature off and see what happens. I'm guessing if that is the problem there isn't a fix - it'll just wait for UV 2 - which is a very exciting project!

It's definitely UV. It's an issue that sometimes happens with the weapononback feature (since it has to pretend to be a quiver). Just go into the ini and set shieldonback to 0 and the problem should go away (make sure you have your weapon drawn in the save game before you do it.)
