Proper Credits and Permissions

I've written a mod, I'm almost done testing it and am getting keen to release it. The only problem I have is how to properly credit it.

It contains a couple of scripts that, since I never would have been able to work them out on my own, draw heavily on a variety of sources. (The short list: FWE, Project Nevada, several config menu systems, Cipscis tutorials and a bunch of others that I can't remember any more1.)

So, what's the community consensus? How can I get this svcker out there without feeling like an arsehole?

Cheers,
Watto44.

1) The reason I can't remember is because I ripped stuff from a bunch of scripts I wrote several months ago that were inspired by other scripts. I'm starting to get into Kevin Bacon territory here. ><

I'd think if they are not direct rips of the scripts - only using functions and parts and such that giving credit is a minimum.

But also if you know where you got them all then drop a PM to the authors and ask if their use is accepted.

Many readmes will also state whether the mod contents are also resources.

From the Oblivion thread on http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1081671-list-of-modders-resources/:
Common Courtesy From Resource Users:- Credit the resource, author(s), and anyone else specified by the author(s).- Send a notice to the resource creator that you are using their resource.- Link back to the original resource in your read-me.- If possible, rate/endorse the resource to show your appreciation.
There is probably more, but not coming to mind, so that is my contribution. Certainly non-active mod makers can pose a problem (some may say crisis) if the use of the material is ambiguous. That has been a dilemma for some on the forums - as the resource mod maker is not active and it is not clear whether it is safe to use.

In such cases the general consensus has been to not use if it is a direct copy bit that it is ok if not and altered or personalized further.

Thanks Psymon,

I've sent out the PMs, now back to "testing". :P
