Skyrim its a Norse thing!

On the topic of Norse Mythology, Did you know that Odin or Woden (depending on your cultural beliefs) was hung on the tree of knowledge for the same amount of time as Christ was on the cross to gain knowledge of the runes to give to humans and that he was also stabbed with a spear.

I think?

It was actually nine days and nine nights.

Probably start with an assassin using daggers, bows, and illusion. After playing oblivion for a while it seemed like using illusion with moderate sneak(for when spells wear off) was better than trying to max out sneak. Kept me out of site and able to see in the dark. I'm sure after a playthrough or two I'll give the dual axe wielding Nord a shot. I rarely play as a warrior, usually mage or thief or mix. Seems hard to keep things fresh when you are just hacking at everything in site, but I haven't tried it enough to know for sure.

Well said!

The funniest thing is I imagine nearly everyone who has placed a negative comment would have some ties to Norse culture. as a said in the OP. Here is a basic history lesson:

Saxons invaded Roman Briton (a country made up of Britons and Romans)
The Saxons conquered (apart from a small contingent from Penzance)
Years later the Danes invaded, taking most of Northern England (Northumbria, Mercia and East Anglia), Wessix held (at one time the British with King Alfred held a land mass of one football field of marsh land as an empire)
Americans are settled explorers led FRANCIS DRAKE from Plymouth, Yep chances are you come from a Saxon or Dane

So if your English, chances are your heritage is part Dane or Saxon.

NORSE is a a religion that worshipped the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norse_mythology before Christianity took hold, BTW I am English born in London, this thread stems from my purely historical interests to the influences to MY culture. It truly is fascinating if people actually took the time to care instead of judge, "this thread stinks of arrogance" lol, how silly do you sound now.

Theeen, when Hammerfell appears in a game, all of we will have to feel identified, it will be OUR culture.

Anyway, yes, norse culture rocks (well, as any other culture, but I'm specially interested in this one). I don't have to have norse ancestor to know that.

i'll never play as a brainless nord brute its a shame the game is taking place in skyrim in the first place where we have to endure having nord this and nord that shoved in our face i hope its not as bad as mw was the last thing we need is an army of nord [censored] like mw did for dark elves if im gonna play as a fighter it'll be a redguard other wise i'll be a altmor mage like always the next game really needs to be set in a decent place like summer set isle

Don't worry too much about it. The Nords are not Vikings and I highly doubt all of the characters will be stereotypical barbarians. They covered this in one of the Enterprise episodes: "Do you really think ALL Klingons are warriors?" That can be applied here too, it would be silly if every single Nord was a one-dimensional walking Viking stereotype. I doubt Bethesda would do that, even if they pull some ideas from such legends.

Also I'm not sure if it was said, but the horned helmet thing was an invention of the last couple years. Vikings never used them.

If I were to play a Nord I'd probably play stealth or magic roles. I like breaking stereotypes. I'll certainly play a Khajiit though. I'm personally interested to see what they do here. It would take a one dimensional stereotypical world to disappoint me, and that's not something Bethesda tends to do.

I think I'm actually going to be quite non-norsy. Like a Bosmer that just happened to go there and become a hero. A very anti-hero little fella, and an outsider :)

I'm gunna be a southern imperial knight for sure, who can't abide the savage, uncouth ways of the north. Have not yet decided what he's doing there though haha, probably exile or the like.

my fav race is altmor what do you expect plus it seems like every other race has got a game to focus on there region and lore while the altmor have to sit back and take the backseat again it gets old and even you have to admit that mw brainwashed tons of people that dark elves are the greatest thing ever that could stomp any race just because it was some decent fire resist and a little destruction omg it can do eveything puke now it looks like i'm gonna have to deal with it in nord form

The are called "Altmer"... not "altmor"...

Every other race has a game to focus in their region? Tell that to khajiits, redguards, argonians and bosmer. I supposse there will be a game settled in Summerset... some day, in the future. Personally, I'm happier with Skyrim.

I'll most likely play as a Redguard or Nord because there is no way will I play as an Imperial. (I admit that personal "feelings" about Empires and certain Kings named "George III" are to blame here.)

Yet you do have the Senate and the Roman people in your sig :P

I share your sentiments though. In Morrowind most of my characters were Dunmer of various Houses, Tribes and occupations, but one thing they all had in common was their desire to kick out the foreign imperialist bastards. My first character will be a Nord barbarian-like warrior, so a mix of combat and stealth skills wearing light or no armour, who will crush the Imperials, see them driven before him and hear the lamentation of their women.

Looks will be based on myself, only a bit more muscular.

Well since it's Skyrim i'll go with the obvious choice.

Dunmer mage or spellsword. Necromancer if we got em. I'll work my way up to the head of a guild or something and fight the man.

Character 1 will as always be an Argonian mage-thief.

Character 2 will be a Nord warrior, focusing on warrior abilities and Thu'um.

Character 3 is my elven battlemage.

I should be playing as a Nord, unless the Dunmer manage to sway me from this path of Nordic-ness. I've already thought of a backstory for my Nord character, and have proceeded to (attempt to) draw out his bloodline from the Oblivion crisis to Skyrim. :obliviongate: Honestly, though, my backstory for a Dunmer character seems more interesting to me.

Anyway, If I do play as a Nord, it should be a two-handed weapon or one-handed weapon with shield Nord Male. If I end up playing as a Dunmer, I'd be a Spellsword kind of character.
