Dynamic Weather conflicting with Unofficial Patch

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 7:23 am

I'd just finished setting up a big stack of mods with the help of a few people and I was pretty much ready to roll when I found http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10607, it's a lovely mod that adds lots more atmosphere with fog and sandstorms.

I was running around D.C making sure everything is working and I encountered http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/7010/watercz.jpg in the water basin at Project Purity, I assumed it was Broken Steel conflicting but it turns out to be the Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch.

That's my load order in the spoiler tags, all Xepha's Dynamic Weather plugins cause the glitch, either separately or together.

I've spent the last few hours enabling and disabling mods, Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch.esm and Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch - Broken Steel.esp both cause the conflict to happen, strangely enough MoreMapMarkers.esp also causes a smaller problem http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/20/water2u.jpg.

I've got FO3edit installed so I can poke around the files, all I've found are two references to Project Purity under the Water section of Dynamic Weather, I tried deleting them and saving the file but it didn't help, I should add that I'm really flying blind at this point, any help from someone with more experience dealing with conflicts would be great as I'm dying start the game now. :sadvaultboy:

Thanks.

I've seen this before from people using fellout and broken steel. I'm not sure what (if any) the fix was.

I do, however, notice that you haven't got any of my DLC plugins loaded - drop them in just after Dynamic Weather - Main.esp, like so:

Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Main.esp
Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Anchorage.esp
Xepha's Dynamic Weather - The Pitt.esp
Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Broken Steel.esp
Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Point Lookout.esp

Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Night Eye Edition.esp
Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Anchorage (NEE).esp <-- you'll also need this if you're using both my anchorage and night eye plugins
Xepha's Dynamic Weather - Sandstorm.esp

Just poking around the esp's of the UF3P myself in FO3Edit and there doesn't appear to be any conflicts with Dynamic Weather water that I can see. (I don't actually use UF3P, just dropped the esp's in to have a look - although I'm using an older(?)/manual install version - don't really fancy dropping an installer version in there just to check.)

There's a lot of odd stuff in there I don't understand the purpose of. Like, loads of AbraxoCleaner randomly dropped all over the place. For instance: in UF3P - Broken Steel.esp/Worldspace/Wasteland/Block 0, -1/Sub-Block 1, -3/ProjectPurityExterior (which is just about where those water glitches are appearing) there are some Temporary Placed Objects - a couple of AbraxoCleaner just sat there, overriding something else. No idea what the point of that is. Wierd...

Strange thing is, I can't find anything that wouldn't be overriden by Dynamic Weather, if you stick to the Load Order you have there. If you haven't already, drop the Dynamic Weather DLC plugins in (especially the Broken Steel one) and see what happens. Fingers crossed, it goes away!

Ha!

Now I feel like a pleb, I'm not sure why I missed the DLC download on the nexus but it's absolutely solved the water glitch, thanks for the help and thanks for creating the mod :vaultboy:

Cheers mate :disguise:

I'm well into the game now, one thing I've noticed and thought I might as well ask while you're here, I had a sandstorm in Megaton (looked amazing) but as soon as I step outside it's a clear day, is this a normal issue or have I overlooked something else?

Clear, as in http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/images/10607-3-1267319413.png?

Well, that's not right. How does your load order look now?

Yeah, totally clear just like that screenshot, then I walk back into Megaton and it's a dustbowl, I noticed a similar issue where Megaton had low cloud cover yet outside it was clear again, it's as if the weather inside and outside is completely unconnected

One other thing I noticed, it might be related, if I rest inside Megaton until nightfall I often get a pitch black night, I have to rest one more hour for the brightness correction to kick in, I'm guessing it's a script starting late as I noticed it kicks in at the same time as the Streetlights mod, I'm no expert though.

While there's no scripts attached to the Night Eye Edition's (they're merely overriding the standard/dark Dynamic Weather nights) it may be load order related - hopefully the changes I made will fix it. I'll have to have a look and see if there's something I've missed though. :o

Excellent! That appears to have done the job, it took ages for me to get a sandstorm but it worked as expected, I'll keep testing and let you know how I get on.

Thanks again :)
