I most certainly did!

I removed the offending mod. Game is stable yet again.

I may give it another go once the mod author responds - hopefully too Valda will see the bug report about Wrye Flash and come out of semi retirement as that issue too will effect people.

Just to be clear - no hurt feelings ... it is just that I don't want to take [censored] from people.

Just hearing about all these mods, while still waiting for my game to arrive from Amazon, is driving me bonkers!

Here is my plan...when I get the game, I will play WITHOUT MODS except for maybe one that changes to font to a smaller type, MMM, and maybe a few radio station song increasings.

But nothing else that changes anything.

No point in playing FO3 without DarnifiedUI!

I had plenty of fun with FO3 at release without any significant mods... the first time through a game is often the most memorable. However, IMO MMM does nothing but enhance (and maybe fills in a couple gaps...) what's already there... so +1 for MMM on first play.

I also highly recommend FWE + WMK (Weapon Mod Kits). As I said, vanilla is good... but these mods make it better while staying true to FO. Suggestion: progress to ~ LVL 10 in vanilla- which won't take long!- then settle in for your real FO3 trip... it won't be unrecognizable but it will be much more interesting. :deal:

Ohh look an amateur goat herder - looking to collect goats no less.

Soo laid back as I casually sling yet more psych insults ... projection ... hurt feelings. Presume much? Some use emoticons to convey that when they say things like ... don't be so anol  - so that it does not come off like an attempt at insulting. I'm not big on emoticons either - having learned to type on a typewriter.

Really it comes down to you make a snipe then I call you on it and now you assume that I have a hurt backside and then you take an air of detachment. You can't know what people are like or what they really mean by just their words on an anonymous forum. You can assume all you like - but assumptions aside - I'm not addressing you on what I think you wrote, but on what you wrote.

Since you can't tell what a person is really thinking or what they are really like then why persist? Unless yeah you do want my goat. If an approach is not read as being welcome and yet is persisted upon then what would you read about that?

That is why I directed the conversation back to the reason why and the subject at hand ... and will do so again. Because BAIN advantages far outweigh the disadvantages and manual install is emphasizing the disadvantages.

I'd asked if you or anyone had success at installing the beta of that mod with an installer. So you didn't even need to answer. Not the alpha not a previous version - the beta. Looking at the comments I see I'm not the only one who has issues.

It's only a snipe if you perceive being anol in the context of something as trivial as video games installers as negative. Change your perception and you will be happier. I find anol video gamers funny, so my perception allows me to chuckle at the concept. Nerd rage rawwwr!

The projection comment wasn't in any way an insult.

I don't even understand why you mentioned that.

Finally, I'm not assuming you have a hurt backside... I wrote I was apologizing *just in case* it upset you and that I wasn't sure if it had or not, but I figured you thought something of it (although I made no claim of knowing what that something was) because you took the time to reply to it (so I made no presumption about that).

I was just trying to own up to the point that I can't depend upon other people to accept my perception of reality and if I offend someone, regardless of my intent, I ought to apologize just in case.

So accept it or not, it's out there. I believe intent matters in certain instances. Which is why I explained my perception of the word.

Just so you know broseph, I'm going to go back and read what I wrote about projecting to try and figure out how you took it as an insult, and if I can figure out how you possibly did, then I'll come back to edit this post to apologize for that as well, and either way I'll let you know what I meant by it since you seemed to consider it an insult as you included it in your list of "slung insults". Or is my reading comprehension just very poor?

But apologize right now about constantly wronging you so much and having to apologize so much. I know you hate taking poop! Heh, poop/anol. Tee-hee-hee.

EDIT = "I don't have a problem with you or your personal character. Given the fact that I didn't know about BAIN, and that I don't consider the phrase I used as insultin.. cuz if someone said it to me i wouldn't take it as an insult, and we gotta view the world through the lens in which we see... i'll call that projecting but that's not the exact text-book definition of the word either, maybe inverse-projecting which is probably a paradox lol. ramblinggggg...."

What I meant here is that in order to trouble-shoot how other people may react to what I say or write, I usually compare it to how I would take it if someone said the same thing to me.

This is why I wrote "If someone said it to me I wouldn't take it as an insult, and we gotta view the world through the lens in which we see it..."

The lens was supposed to be me, so then I went on to think it was almost like projecting my own identity onto others, which is what made me think of the word projection, which is what made me *write* the word projection. Since I doubted that this was the exact text-book definition of the word "Projection" (in the psychological sense), I wrote "Inverse-projecting which is probably a paradox lol".

I made light of the fact that I wasn't using the word properly. If you knew that I knew that I didn't know what the word meant (say that 3 times fast), how could you think it was an insult? It directed towards you as an insult, let me just say that as a final assurance.

Since I've gone so in-depth in breaking the paragraph I wrote down, it's now become difficult for me to see it in any other fashion. So I am unable to determine why you added it to your list of perceived "Psych-term slung insults".

If you could perhaps take the time to give me some feed-back on how you interpreted the paragraph to begin with as an insult, I would appreciate it greatly. Learning is life:)

But I want to leave you with one other question: Are you absolutely positive that you made no assumptions whatsoever about any of these posts? I think I'd be unable to do that when so many things can be interpreted in different ways. I ask because you made several remarks about presuming and assuming, and how text made that impossible. (You must hate novels, huh?) Or are there trust issues... you might trust a famous author writing " 'Don't be so anol' John said with a smile." But simply not believe someone who uses a :) So perhaps it isn't an issue of not being able to interpret what people say on a anonymousness forum, so much as it is you simply choosing not to believe people when they say they were joking.

Like that whole projection insult thing, was that an assumption on your part? If it was, did it stem from mis-interpretation, poor reading comprehension on your part, or a now-convenient typo? Or was it poor writing on my part?

!I don't think writing to strangers is a waste of time! So I'll respond back whenever you write something to me. Even if all you wrote was "don't write to me" I'd still write to you one last time to tell you how I felt about that hehe. Which would be 'tha not fair' and 'that's rude'. Then you might write back "well how can you hate rudeness so much when you're here being rude by not respecting my wishes to cease contact with you", and which point I'd of course respond back with "you were rude first by telling me not toooo (extra o's for a more childish effect)", and then somewhere along the way Gandhi would rise back up from the dead and poke both our eyes out.

P.S. It's also rude to ignore people:P

Sort of funny because if you follow along with the logic that it's rude to ignore people, and rude to stop responding to people who have not stopped talking to you -- you could end up with an endless conversation, until eventually one party would have to be rude to the other. Ah, life is learning and life is selfishness. Or is it both and then a bunch of other things.

I'm a philosophy major:P Not smart enuff to be a shrink tee-hee.

Huh? what?

If you say:
I ask because you made several remarks about presuming and assuming, and how text made that impossible. (You must hate novels, huh?)
Do you not get that the part in parenthesis is is your assumption? Perhaps even projection? And you do that each time you post.

If I say "hey you're a nerd - a geek at that ... but Oh don't take it personal ... you see let me tell you I wouldn't - I have a higher understanding - I've transcended insults ... you nerd." Does this change anything? Forgive me but just because -=One is on a higher octave=- doesn't mean that one should expect or need anyone else to join them. I say keep respect in front, don't throw your own feces, don't take on airs of superiority when you make a mistake. That is how I go about it.

This is a forum about mods, not a forum to glorify personalities or deride them. You are so far off topic and I've tried to steer the topic back and actually talk about the issue and questions (why I won't use that mod and what is wrong with it).

So you've not heard of BAIN - whoopdido. Not my problem ... in fact I can see that communicating with you further is more off topic BS.

I'm so over this - can we just say "no problems, no beef" and go on about what this is about. If not then perhaps a moderator is needed.

In fact I'd have no issue if a mod made all this disappear.

II was a hypothesis, not that I claim not to assume from time to time. I assume the gasoline I put into my car is actually gasoline as one example.

It takes two people to have a conversation, don't lay off-topic posts on my lap alone, or do you regularly remind people not to go off topic in a post you write that's off-topic? Not that Off T. posts are gonna kill anyone.

And you put words in my mouth. I never claimed my perception of silly nerd game order was better than yours; I simply said it was different. I live by the golden rule. Do to others what you would have done to yourself. I'm writing to you because I don't mind if you write to me, I wrote not to be so anol because I wouldn't mind if you wrote it to me. Since it turned out that you may have minded... I left several apologies. Never did I say it was right for me to say it. I left you an apology and an explanation, not an apology with an insult. Maybe you're one of those people who believe (this is a hypothesis), maybe you're one of those people who believe a true apology can't be accompanied by an explanation? Well, I'll tell you for sure that I'm not. I can't do *everything* your way, so please deal with the explanation at the very least. Seems like you're all take and no give on this whole thing. *you* don't want me to post Off t, *you* consider what are obviously explanations of reasoning to be further insults, *you* only reply back to some of what I say while I touch on all issues of your post. Would you like it more if I just did exactly what *you* wanted here? Maybe this last bit is a bit ruder, but you've been trying to "get my goat" for awhile now, when I've been just writing questions, explanations, and apologies -- you've been insisting on telling me what I'm wrong about non-stop. I'm not mad yet, it just seems as though you don't even realize....

Btw you missed a few choice bits from my post in your reply, but I hypothesized that there was a high probability of that, confirmation bias? Love these terms heh.. You seem (hypothesis) so intent on not communicating fully. It's not the worst thing in the world. You can go a few rounds without writing about a mod right? If you don't want to that's fine... but don't expect me to not reply to comments you make about what I've written. It's unfair to think you can comment on what I've said, especially when I don't agree with those comments, and not get a reply. It's a double-standard. Complaints about complaining are like derogatory view points on elitism. You've got to be above to look down.

Oh come on , man, you`re supposed to be a psychologist (so you tell us like it`s a badge of honour), but you`re whining on a GAMES forum like a child. Look to yourself and see just how ridiculous you`re becoming.

Let it go.

But you won`t will you, you can`t.

This is my last.

Getting this topic back on topic, I think you have the right idea, first just play the game and see what changes you would like to make. So many new players fill up with mods that are no longer necessary due to patches and some are just downright incompatible. Play the game, see what you want to change, then start looking at mods. ;)

I am also going to be asking for information about mods on here before I add them. Instead of freaking out and adding scores of mods like I mistakenly did with OB

Hey apologies to everyone (the few) on this forum for in any way pulling this topic off topic.

I find the best way to not engage in trading insults is to just stop - the best apology is to just stop, not rationalize. I think the whole point of private messages is be able to communicate with off topic stuff. It really is rude to everyone continue with the conversation in any way on this thread or forum really.

There have been some great mods listed herein. I'll definitely be checking a few out - who knows maybe I will get the fallout install as bloated as my main Oblivion install.

Yah, waiting for shipping can be so frustrating!

Did you know that Amazon.com offers this cool (one time only) deal? Basically you sign up for this free-trial that lasts two weeks (just cancel it after your stuff has arrived and they'll never charge you), and during that time you get Free two day shipping on unlimited items. Normally that would be like 20 dollars per item or something crazy.... and the one day shipping costs only 4 bucks. Although usually i'd get free two day.

This is really only important if you are intending to order several things at once of course.

As I am reading through this I am left with a silly question to most of you I am sure; where exactly do you find all these mods and is there a simple way of installing them? Also are they like the dlcs and they are part of the game once installed or does one need to install and uninstall to play a different one.

I am pretty ignorant in regards to installing mods, and as much as I love playing FO3 over FO3 NV (played both on 360 before buying for PC) I am growing bored with running around killing Super Mutants for their blood.

Did anyone ever make a mod where you help set up the towns? As an example Big Town setting up a shop or two, or Amata opening up the vault after the water is flowing and trading with the rest of the world?

Any help/ideas appreciated.

Guess you must be new to ask such a question and, maybe you tend not to read enough on these threads cos the answers all there.

1.Mods allow modifications that can be placed into fallout and become integrated into the game itself.

2. they can be simple adding a simple costume or gun. Or a little more complex adding a whole NPC (non-player character) to join you or fight you with a quest or no quest.

3. They can alter the entire game with different weather and even whole cities IF the Modder who makes it is willing to make the effort.

4. Hundreds of differnet Mods can be put togther and work at the same time in game.

5. You can make the game as hard and realistic as you want or as funny and arcady as you want- ALL for free!

My friend has the Xbox version of FO3. Sometimes he comes round to see my version of FO3. My version is so different he cannot recognise it from his console one. that`s how big the differences can be.

Check this link:

http://70.38.54.187/g/400/734349ca-236e-42f0-9c6d-db58bfa193fc.jpg

http://70.38.54.187/g/400/ab33d7e7-a52b-4a12-a43b-a8841fb594eb.jpg

In these simple screenshots I have about 60 mods working, but can you tell? that`s how well GOOD mods work.

However, to install them takes some common sense from the new guy. Use a few Mods to start with. Use FO3 Mod manager for some Mods and MANUALLY install others.

READ the README, that cannot be emphasised enough- Or expect crashes and frustration.

Oh, and finally, if you do use Modder`s work, thank them, for they use their free time and effort to make free things which is a rare commodity in this world these days.

Read this for info on installing mods: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/972878-fallout-3-mods-faq/

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/ is home to thousands and thousands of mods you can download.

There are mods to change, fix or add nearly anything you can think of. Just use the Search function and you'll find many mods which add to Big Town. http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13308 is a great one for opening up the vault.

The DLCs are, technically, mods. There's nothing in any of the DLCs a player made mod couldn't do, because they use exactly the same method of loading.

Simply put, you can have up to 255 things loading. One of those things is fallout 3 itself, each DLC is another thing. Everything loads in an order, called, aptly, your "Load Order". The game goes through this list and loads everything in sequence - if what it's loading already exists, it drops what it used to have and loads this instead. If what it's loading doesn't exist, it adds it like you'd expect. This is often called the "Rule of One", it means that only one mod can affect any one thing, whether that be an NPC, the location of a box in a town, the stats on a gun, or the dialogue of a quest. The upshot of this is it's very easy to understand how everything works, and it gives a lot of flexibility to modding.

For example, if I have 3 things loading: Fallout 3, The Pitt, and a mod to change the damage value of the 10mm pistol, my game will be Fallout 3, with the pitt, and my 10mm pistol does a different amount of damage. As your list gets longer, the number of changes gets longer, but it never gets /much/ more complex than that.

This does open up the issue of "Mod Conflicts", though, you can probably already guess what that means. One mod is overriding a change made by an earlier loading mod, and that mod isn't happy about it. Sometimes such conflicts are intentional - compatibility patches technically conflict with both mods they're making compatible, but they actually remedy any issues, and sometimes they're not. However, most of the time you don't have to worry about this.

Oh, and grab a copy of Fallout Mod Manager, and FO3Edit. The former because the Fallout Launcher data files section is /rubbish/, and the latter because some mod conflicts can be easily resolved. For example, one mod adding hairs, and another mod editing races, will conflict, but FO3Edit understands this and can create a "Merged Patch" that will have both the race edits and new hairs in.

3. Companions, Amata, Amy, Jessi, Kelsey and Kat; and, etc.

Huh. Someone still uses that mod? Go figure. I always though it was terrible and have many times considered scrapping it. But it does work and is lore friendly, just lacks one or two voices, so I guess I could one day finish it.

Did anyone ever make a mod where you help set up the towns? As an example Big Town setting up a shop or two, or Amata opening up the vault after the water is flowing and trading with the rest of the world?

Those are the only ones that come to mind. Also, if your just starting out with mods, its imperative that you get http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=640.

My friend has the Xbox version of FO3. Sometimes he comes round to see my version of FO3. My version is so different he cannot recognise it from his console one. that`s how big the differences can be.

Check this link:

In these simple screenshots I have about 60 mods working, but can you tell? that`s how well GOOD mods work.

Yes, I can tell. The pink animu hair is a dead give-away.

Reposting my Load Order again here, as I stated I would, since my game and my fiance's game both appear to be pretty well stable at various stages of the game in both, and people have commented a number of times in the past how it has helped. I do still plan on possible adding the new Action Point Project mod that came out recently, but am waiting to see some further developments on it first. Beyond what is present in this LO, I have also made manual adjustments to my Merged Patch to compensate for conflicts it was not able to handle automatically as well as running appropriate cleaning procedures via FO3Edit (BASH would be better for this in many places, do consider that as well, I am just not versed in it yet), added a number of Replacer files for graphics, made tweaks to INI files, and made adjustments regarding XML files for menus (so to be fair, things are a bit more comprehensive than just the LO itself):

Psymon and Redeye - I see that you both use refurbish. However, Psymon uses the .esm version and Redeye uses the .esp (ALL) version - what is the difference and does is work with FWE as it seems FWE conflicts in FO3edit.

Technically it does conflict with FWE, but not in any kind of game breaking way. The conflict comes because FWE also tries to make the DLCs less intrusive to your game, the Refurbish mod simply does it in a different way.

To be honest, I have no idea where Psymon got an ESM version of the mod, cause I just downloaded and added it recently again and it came in ESP format (unless Psy just made it an ESM on his own). Not really sure what, if any, difference there would be from having it as an ESM/ESP, I just know I like it a lot not starting the game with DLC Quests.

EDIT: Also figured I should drop in my more updated LO now that I have moved over to the Bashed Patch and am also using a couple last new mods I really like:
