In praise of Mods

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:55 am

I was a bit nervous of installing mods for a game that already crashed on odd occasions but then I read http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1116998-fallout-mod-detectives-9/ and http://www.gamesas.com/?showtopic=1056342 threads. In turn they led me to http://www.youtube.com/user/acannova#p/u/6/n_ix-dOGfXs that explained how to install and manage some of the most popular mods.

Now I'm playing the Fallout Wanderers Edition and it's added a whole new dimension to a game that I thought I'd played out. Now I'm confident about installing and managing mods there's almost endless possibilities for tweaking the game to get new things out of it.

Moderators - at first glance it might seem this topic is in the wrong forum but I want to encourage people who've never tried a mod to give the a go, so I put it here.

Posters - if you have a mod that you love post it but any queries about getting them to work probably belong in http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/forum/45-fallout-3-mods/.

DarnUI
MMM
FWE
RH_IronShigts
TheOutbreak's Wasteland Moods Series

Just a few, but the game changes so much. The posiblity of install mods and the fact of there is a very active comunity making mods is one of the reasons I bought Fallout 3. It can be a little bit difficult if you are not an expert, but when you learn, it can be so fun than the game itself, and you will allways find help in the forums. Of course, I encourage to install mods to all those that didnt allready.

For any fan of the Enclave or anyone who wanted to join them in the main questline, Enclave Commander is pretty much a must have.

Plus its always satifisfying to have a full scale invasion of the Citadel. :chaos:

I feel that even running a patched game vanilla without mods it would still crash randomly. And I base that on absolutely nothing.

I don't think you'll find anyone on the Fallout 3 Modding forum who does not use mods. :P

It seems this post have been moved. I dont know why, because speaking about having or not having mods can also be a good "general question" but doesnt makes sense in the mods section.

There are lot of gamers using personal rules for making the game harder and Im sure they would install some mods if they see that it is easy.

I prefer FWE's "alternate start" :). Adds so much depth for role playing.

That's exactly why I posted it in the General forum. It seems a bit redundant here but thanks for all the replies and recommendations, I'll give them a try when I've worn out FWE.
