Bad Crash

Nilms, just out of curiosity how did you manage to clock up 347 hours and only reach lvl 20? Were you using Kobus levelling with one of the slower skills optional esps?

I actually like the idea of keeping my character at lower levels for longer, it makes the game more challenging. I'm about to do a new instalI and I am going to use Kobus to set a decent max level (something to work towards) then use the optional slower skills esps to slow down levelling at lower levels.

Hi Ripatero.

Quite easy really.

leveling The majority of my Major skills I chose I rarely use.

Being a Breton Knight the swords my preferred choice of weapon.

I major skilled with marksman.I'm no Robin Hood lol :whistling:

Hand to hand. Its hard putting boxing gloves on wearing gauntlets lol

Blunt.I hate Clubs.

Blade & Heavy Armor. Bretons need all the protection they can get at the start being slightly weedy .

Restoration.Need healing to often in the beginning.

Skills I use the most such as magic and block.if i used them as major skills I'd be around level 50 still getting battered lol :P

hope this makes it a bit clearer .

Nilms, nice approach to levelling actually. Its really easy to overpower characters using mods, I admire your restraint.

With FCOM installed as well as a lengthy list of quest mods its easy to clock up 400-500 hours in a game. But eventually playing such a long game can result in an overpowered character that doesn't get challenged by many things, depending on choice of mods.

Lv59, 988hp 1880magicka.. 100+ in most stats.. things can still kick my ass if I'm not careful. I'm gonna turn off magicka regeneration for more of a challenge.

I actually had to edit my obxp ini and lower some values on my attribute controllers because I once had 1600hp..making me invincible. x_x

Greetings Nilms,

Are you still experiencing CTDs? And if so, is it _only_ when approacing Sancre Tor? I had a mysterious CTD issue appear any time I entered the Tamriel worldpace from anywhere else (a city, and internal cell, etc). What made it even tougher to troubleshoot was the fact that it was not always instant... sometimes it was, but other times it could take a min or two. I could even explore a little before the CTD in some cases.

Anyway, I see that same mod in your load order, and couldn't help but wonder, especially when you mentioned corrupted saves. (Forgive me for not naming the mod outright... I don't want to say anything negative about someone's hard work, especially if it is not applicable. Plus, many people use this mod without issue, so no need to get too far ahead of myself)

If you have CTDs in other parts of Tamriel, it _could_ be the same issue. But if it's truly only at Sancre Tor, then it almost certainly is _not_ related.

That's good you've got your savegame back. In my earlier post I meant to say "tfc" not tcl sorry. With tfc you should be able to look around sancre tor without crashing. I would try my earlier suggestion of getting as close to the ctd area as possible and save in a new slot, then toggle your camera and have a look around.
You can also try deacivating mods one at a time, or in groups to help narrow down the source. I've been able to resolve every consistent crash without losing any games with this type of approach.

Good Evening Vegtabill,

I eventually managed to get out of Ninevada after many failed attempts, and I now have an uncorrupted saves list. It cleared its self after I reinstalled the removed Mod Artefacts of the Ancestors.

I've made numerous attempts getting into Sacre Tor from all directions. Every try results in CTD. I even tried getting in using console command "TCL",Still crashed.

A strange thing happened while i was in the testinghall. Went into one the many rooms, then I had the Quest message pop up "you've found Sancre Tor".

I've never encountered problems like this with a number of game runs.

After some good pieces of advice from various people I'm i the process of trying to clean my Mod list. Thats come to a abrupt Halt trying to clean Artefacts of the Ancestors .

When its run with TES4Edit for cleaning its crashed with a Fatal error message:

[00:18] Background Loader: [Artefacts of the Ancestors.esp] Building reference info.
[00:19] Background Loader: Fatal:
[00:19] Background Loader: finished

Even on the Cleaning Guide it mentions problems with this Mod.

I've been asking for help to fix it but with no luck so far.I think I have the required tools to fix it,but I'm not very good using them, and finding instructions is hard also

I'm now getting to the mind thought this might be the end using the Mod. Which is a shame because it a really Good Mod. Plus am I going to get the same problems if the Mod is removed resulting in corrupt saves.

I won't have a proper answer for you until I've finished cleaning the rest of the Mods, and fixing Ancestors.

Once I'm up and running or Crashed and Burned I'll let you know. :)

Cheers,

James.

Hi Katnap

Thank you for your updated information.

I'm saved as close as I can get before CTD. I'll have another attempt when I'm using the cleaned Mod List, but as I've said in the previous post I'm having major problems fix and cleaning that 1 Mod.

Hope I'm up and running real soon.

Cheers,

James. :)

The major lesson to be learned here is: do *not* use the autosave and quicksave functions: they get corrupted very easily and you have no backups. I cannot recommend enough finding a mod that will make automatic saves for you, preferably with a large rotation cycle (like cycling through 40 or so slots), so you can *always* go back a bit and find an earlier save. It can save you enormous woe and distress; frankly I'm amazed you've got that many hours racked up on your character and this is the first time you've had savegame corruption using those functions...

Streamline allows autosaving and you can set it to save at whatever timeframe suits you. I have it save every 10 minutes and after every combat. You can have up to 60 autosaves and it's very easy to setup. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10400

I'm on a 250+ hour toon and I always use quick save/quick load and never had an issue. I also have 200+ mods loaded. However, that being said, I also save my game the menu way periodically just in case, say like every hour or two. That's also not to say you'll never have a problem. But I think quick save/load shouldn't just be altogether avoided.

At the risk of going too far off-topic, I'll quickly add that, while I think it's great that some have no problems with quick save/load, I definitely would not _recommend_ that strategy. A few corrupted saves were enough to cure me of that. Also, if you do use Streamline (which I _do_ recommend, for saving and purging, anyway), saving after combat may be a bit troublesome. I used to do that, too, but I also have mods running that affect when combat "begins" and "ends", and also a mod that affects the music changes between combat and non-combat. The point is, sometimes I'll end up with several transitions between the two states in one battle, and the pause to do a Streamsave after each "engagement" got a little tedious for me. I turned that off, and now do a Streamsave every 5 mins in 12 slots. That gives me about an hour worth of saves to go back to, and combined with occasional manual saves that has been perfect for me.

Anyway, just thought I'd toss that out there for you. As always, YMMV.

hi all.

thank you all very much for your advice and links.

I've been thinking about this for a while now.

Does Oblivion and Fallout3 Use the same game engine?

Reason for asking.Fallout3 has a save Game Mod known as CASM which seems to have the same function as Streamline.

I was wondering could I use Casm instead of Streamline?

Thank you for your input.

Cheers.

Hi Terra,

Sorry for the lateness of my reply.I've just seen your Post. Specsvaers here I come lol

As for my Mods. I'm using a OOO+MMM Build, but left out most of the Creatures.Bit of a Wimp lol

I'll use the full install when I change to FCOM.Just need to finish closing all the gates lol :P

A quick question as you are a Master.

When creating certain Spells they only go up to Level 25.When you pass 25 can you still use those Spells?

All the Best.

James. :)

Hi All

This in probably my last throw of the dice with Mr 350 Solution. Then its Boot time and here comes FCOM.

Where I'm at so far.

I deactivated all apart from Oblivion esm.To prove something still worked. I've gradually reactivated and tested each Mod from my Mod list one at a time until i came across the cause of the CTD.

After many hours of testing and Rebuilding Bashed patch, "which I've quite enjoyed" I am at the where I have a Mod list which has been cleaned and works with No crashing. :celebration:

I now have an extremely long Save Game list from the start of CTD all the way to this point of a clean and clear load order.

I'm now coming to the point where the question I need an answer too will be the end of this game. :violin:

I can load and play the new order with this stable list, and load it with old saves after the point of the CTD. but when i load it trying to use an old save containing the CTD it crashes.

is there anyway I can get this new list to load without encountering the CTD by somehow fixing the Old save either with TES4edit,Wrye to clean out the cause ,so I can continue this current game please?

Any information even if its is Good or bad is very much appreciated.

Thank you all for you time and help.

Warmest Regards

James. :foodndrink:
