If this was the primary way of opening doors, it might be a little too complicated for every average player out there. I know it's not actually complicated, but it's just too much to do for 500+ hours of gaming to have to constantly stop and open doors all the time, when you could just press A.
I think if it were implemented, it should be kept the way it was in Oblivion. Tap A, it opens, or closes. However, you can also interact with the door the same way you could with physics objects. By holding down LB (I believe.. on Xbox anyway), you could interact with the door just like other in game objects. And depending on if it's more open or closed from your interaction, tapping A would just reset it. So you could either open it physically, or just with a tap of the usual button.
