Newbie Tips?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 6:00 am

Hey guys, I just started playing Daggerfall a few days ago. I'm having a bit of trouble though.

The game seems to be boring right now. I joined the Fighters Guild and the only quests they give me are "Slay this, loot that.". It's a bit boring and was wondering if there was anything exciting to do as a newbie.

Oh, and tips are welcome too. I'm playing a warrior type character (it's custom) and he is a Redguard. He is level 2 and the only faction he is in right now is the Fighters Guild.

Do some quest for the Merchant Class? For the Nobles? Main Quest itself?

Also, one can just jump into a dungeon and try to get every loot one can?

Another question: Where do you get a horse?

I assume one can buy a horse in General Store (or any store that sell anything). Just talk to the book case next to the Merchant.

As Qawsed Asap said, General Stores sell horses, and also buy a wagon too, this is really important, as you can store A LOT more loot, ideal when delving into large dungeons

You can find some very small dungeons in Daggerfall. It's usually hit or miss but if you can find just one you can dive it a few times and get a hang of the game. Earn some case, ect. I suggest you buy a wagon first at any general store so you can haul your spoils.

It's not hit or miss. Just go to any dungeon that happens to be called a crypt, cemetary, tomb, etc. Those ones are small and will comprise most of the dungeons on the map when you start. They each have two to three rooms. Good practice areas! They also reset when you walk back out the door, so you don't even have to travel to rake in a pile of stuff.

When you've amassed a few thousand gp worth of stuff you can go sell it at one of the shops (better prices at the low-quality shops) and then buy a horse and wagon. And since it hasn't been mentioned here, using the different shelves in a shop will give you different selections of things to buy.

Alright, I started a new mage character and he's got pretty good skills. He has Mysticism and Restoration as major skills so he can teleport. I'll be looking around the Mages Guild for Mark and Recall for easier travelling.

Questions:

1. Does this game have soul gems like Morrowind?

2. Where can I find these small dungeons? The world map is freaking huge.

1. Yes, but they aren't required for enchanting. If you have a filed one, you can use it to boost the capacity and add a few effects to an item you are having enchanted.

2. It's easier if you use the filters to not show the temples, houses, towns, etc and just look at dungeons. All the locations are color coded by type, and also by size. A bright town is larger than a darker town. Same goes for dungeons: red ones are dinky little cemeteries, but bright orange ones are massive dungeons. Of course, you only get real dungeon locations by taking quests and finding maps as loot.

Ahhh, I see. Thanks.

Soul gems are useful in this game for increasing the amount of enchantments you can cram into a single item. Often, though, the item takes on non-removeable side-effects of the type of soul you use. You need ranks in an organization that sells soul gems and enchants items.

Daggerfall players tend to make characters with a balance of capabilities in fighting, magic, and stealth, because they do seem somehow to be the most interesting.

Can anyone tell me how to get back into the Mages Guild, as I could not do the first mission they gave me in time (had to go to multiple locations multiple of times!) My reputation needs to be raised with them, but how if I cannot do Mage Guild missions?

If desperate need of reputation, then one should save before getting the quest from the quest giver. Be picky and find quest that ya will like to do or easy to finish it right away (like guarding a mage for 3 ingame hours or item at midnight til 3 in the morning). If the quest ya did not like does not come up, just reload. Just do this until ya feel like not doing this procedure anymore.
