Anything good out?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:34 pm

Any good PC games out? Don't know what I'm looking for really. Pretty much anything with good user reviews and re-playability. FPS's, RPG's, and RTS's, and MMO's (but I'm pretty burnt out on those) are what I play.

I was looking into Black Ops or BFBC2, but seeing as how BF3 and MW3 will be out later this year, I don't see a point. I was also looking into the Dawn of War 2 games (Steam has all the Dawn of War 2 games (DoW2+Chaos Rising+Retribution) for $60) , but I don't know much about them (are they anything at all like table top 40k?). And I don't know of any decent RPGs that are out aside from DA2 and I'm not interested in that.

So, any and all feedback is appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Chunky

What I have already:

The Witcher, Morrowind, Oblivion, NWN, BG2, PS:T, DA:O, TF2, Counter Strike: Source, All the Half-Lifes, SC2

Civilization IV(or V but I haven't played it yet), Majesty 1&2, Heroes of Might and Magic 3-5(that covers your TBS), Sins of a Solar Empire(RTS), Torchlight and Titan Quest for your RPG needs(albeit Action Top Down RPGs). Can't help ya on the FPS, and as far as MMOs go, I've heard good things about Rift, and of course there is always WoW.

Well, Portal 2's coming this month and The Witcher 2 is coming in May, and they seem pretty likely to be great. As for recent releases that seemed to be received pretty well and fall into your categories:

-Dead Space 2
-Magicka
-Bulletstorm
-Shogun 2: Total War
-Crysis 2

Battlefield 3 wont be out for a while, and BFBC2 is a great game, and it's cheap. BF3's release is definitely not a reason to skip it. It was on sale for $5 yesterday, too bad you missed that.

Command and Conquer the First Decade is a good buy, and should give you something to do for a while. Hell, even beating the single player on all the games could last you a while. Avoid any of the new C&C games, they're rubbish. If you don't want to invest in BFBC2/blops, get BF2 and maybe some of the mods out there (like Project Reality).

EDIT: Any of the STALKER games (Shadow of Chernobyl/Call of Pripyat mostly, Clear Sky is kinda forgettable)

Fallout, Daggerfall, pretty much anything with "fall" in it.

I second this, with a few texture overhaul mods thrown in I found it really enjoyable. It's fairly cheap these days as well from what I remember.

I see you own DA:O, if you liked that maybe DA2 would be worth checking out? There's a demo on Steam, at least pre-release there was, not sure if they've taken it down.

It's perfectly enjoyable without any mods.* It's not like the graphics are horrendous, or anything.

*Although, the combat is pretty awful.
