Can't get TES4Edit working?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:07 am

Ok, so I am completely new to TES4Edit and for some time have been trying to download it, but can never seem to get it working. Look at http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/1035920-1275251104.jpg for details...

So yeah I'm stumped, I tried searching for similar cases, but could find none. I am no beginner to winzip, but I can't really figure out how to work this.

Probably because Winzip (last I knew anyways) can't open 7z archives... try with http://www.7-zip.org/download.html... way better and free anyways

I'll try and post back.

EDIT:

I'm pretty sure Winzip does open 7z archives, I've opened plenty of 7z archived mods before using Winzip, like LAME.

Well that is odd, for some reason Winzip refuses to recognize that as a 7z file even though it obviously has the correct extension. When I used that software you linked to, it opened fine, odd. Oh well, another flaw of payed software I guess, thx for the help.

If a moderator would be so kind as to lock this thread... (EDIT: On second thought, please leave it open a while longer)

PS

If anyone can figure out why Winzip is being an idiot, feel free to PM me.

Winzip will not touch a 7zip archive. You need 7zip in order to unpack that file.

Look at http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/1035920-1275253440.jpg, that is LAME and if you look at the top, it is a 7z archive and I'm opening it using Winzip. Are there different types of 7z archives? As far as I can tell Winzip can open 7z archives. Like I said I've opened loads of mods packaged in 7z format using Winzip, I just don't know why its acting stupid with TES4Edit.

Winrar can open 7zip file maybe you are thinking of that..

There are different types of 7zip settings so Winzip may not be able to read certain 7zip format settings

best to use 7zip itself or Winrar to open 7zip files

That's probably the best explanation, thanks Pacific, Arthmoor and Corepc. Where would the forum be without your help :)

(Please close as question was answered in full)

Well perhaps the Pro version of Winzip will do that. The paid version of Winzip I had didn't have "Pro" added to the name and absolutely would not touch a .7z file. So I chucked it and use 7zip for everything now.
