I started off with Morrowind, so that's not true for everyone. Oblivion may be a bit fast, but Morrowind is way too slow IMO.

If I make a new character in Morrowind, and don't choose speed or athletics, I will end up with a really slow characer that is only able to run in slow-mo. Seriously... I could probably walk faster than him.

But lets not forget that even 1 sword can be heavy... so imagine carrying your own weight.

But when your character in Morrowind has an good speed...or max athletic (like my character...and I didn't used the "fortify on self + soultrap on taget" trick) it can be much faster.

Well I say Oblivion JUST cause if you play Morrowind first then Oblivion then you won't really enjoy Oblivion as much then cause then you'd be like "WTF what happened to meh spearz!"

But yea thats just me.

Definitely Morrowind Skip Oblivion for a while it kinda ruins Morrowind for me it did.

They both have the save the world plot.

Oblivion: You save the world from a demon.

Morrowind: You save the world from a god.



The "animal guys" as you call them are the beast peoples of Tamriel my favorite races too. They are that way and you will get used to it. They are called Argonians (the lizards) and the Kajiit (the cats).


Morrowind is by many considered better. If you played Oblivion first or have no memory of your past plays of Morrowind (me i was little) Oblivion's graphics and better fighting movement will kill your Morrowind experience.

Sadly I technically played Oblivion first because I have few memories of Morrowind so Morrowind and oblivion go unplayed the next one should fix all this with oblivions criticism.

The TES has many games and not all the plots interconnect , there may be some side quests that may have been related to what a character did in a previous game though.

Morrowind even though I haven't put in as much hours as oblivion though.....morrowind feels deeper .

There is some cliche things but most of it seems original and new to me and has too much lore to even comprehend ...in a good way though.

Beast races , Khajiit , Argonian and I guess Orcs count . They aren't that weird.

Get both , GOTY versions of each aren't that expensive . $20 for Morrowind GOTY I got at best buy and $40 for Oblivion GOTY.

Go on ebay you will get it cheaper I got Morrowind on Ebay for 10 bucks. Game of the year too. Oblivion game of the year about 29 I think at wallmart.

Just a warning for you if you get the tribunal and bloodmoon expansions with Morrowind. Do not activate them until you're at least level 10(especially Tribunal). You might even want to wait a bit more than that.
Level 1 with Tribunal active is a bit off putting.(Unless you have mods to solve the unique issue that it brings)

I believe that you should play Morrowind before Oblivion. But you did say you are a Fallout fan so Oblivions gameplay would probably be more suited to what you're used to. Although in my opinion Morrowind is definently the better game. In the end it comes down to rather you like older styled rpgs that are dependant on you leveling up your skills to beable to do much of anything (Mainly talking about Morrowind's combat here) or more action oriented rpgs like Oblivion.

Definately play both, but take up Morrowind first. It's not forgiving and the world will seem like it's on an unreal scale at first.

Play that for a few months, beat the Main Quests, play some guild quests, then jump to Oblivion. In terms of games nowadays, it's "better" but both offer so much and both are amazing in their own rights.

Personally, Morrowind is my favorite game of all time. It was pretty much the only game I remember playing from adolescence, along with maybe Halo 2 or something, but if you give it enough of a chance (I know oh too many people who gave it up because they thought it was too hard/boring because they didn't know how/what to do or how to do it) then it WILL ensnare you.

Morrowind and Oblivion are, without a doubt, two of the best games ever made. Where is TESV already?

If you want to play for the story, play Morrowind first as it comes before Oblivion chronologically. If you're looking for a RP platform and don't care about the main quest (it's entirely optional in Oblivion) than forget about Morrowind. Oblivion looks better so you'll probably enjoy it more.

I really don't understand any of your comments. The stories of Morrowind and Oblivion have practically nothing to do with each other, so chronology is not really an argument. But Morrowind should be played before OB nonetheless as it is an older (and more difficult) game, which is noticeable in graphics and gameplay. Switching back from OB to MW is usually harder than the other way around.
RP wise, MW has many more options, as the game doesn't lead you through quests like OB does. And choices have more influence on how you experience the game.
And since when are better looking games more enjoyable?

Anyway, to the OP: just start with Morrowind (GOTY version), which is the cheapest of the two and see if you like the TES world. If you don't like the game, then there is a small financial loss. If you do like it, then chances are that you will get lost in the game for the coming year or so, and by the time you are "finished" with the game, Oblivion will be much cheaper than it is right now, so you can save some money there too. And you can then get lost in that game for some time too, maybe even until after TES V is released, so you won't have to wait for years and years until you get your long awaited sequel in the TES world. In that way, I am envious, since it has been too long for me already, and you still have all these first time experiences of discovering Vvardenfell and Cyrodiil coming up.
So hopefully you'll enjoy TES like I have and become a big fan of the series, so that in 4 years from now you can explain on these forums how people should definitely try MW, before OB and then TES V to fully appriaciate these amazing games....

I'd say to get Morrowind before Oblivion, but I'd still recommend both. Oblivion is a headache of an unstable game on the pc though, so be prepared.

To all who wish to enter the Elder Scrolls universe get Oblivion first because it gives you a great intro into the Elder Scrolls, and it will only take a 100 hours or so away from your life. Then get Morrowind, with a few graphics enhancing mods, for it will steal 2 to 3 hundred hours of your life, and it gives more of an immersing feeling that Oblivion only touches base on. Also you won't compare Oblivion to Morrowind when playing if you haven't played Morrowind yet.
