Changing your character after creation/tutorial area.

In the recent podcast Todd mentioned about how players in Oblivion would go through the tutorial, get out and then find out that they didn't like the skills/class they choose and they had to do it over. This is one of the reasons they changed it for Skyrim.

However on the other end, I don't know about anyone else, but I got out of the tutorial and after getting a good look at my character in the open sunlight I didn't like the way he looked and had to make a new one. This I found frustrating, it wasn't fun and could be easil solved.

I think it would be a very welcome design choice to allow people to customize their character post-creation/tutorial area. They should be able to change their hair, tattoo's/warpaint in the cities from places you'd expect to be able to. Then for face changes you could implement it in a way that fits and doesn't seem out of the way. So for people who simply find out they don't like the look of their character they made after a bit or if people simply get tired of their look after a while, they change things about it.

In big open world rpgs like TES games you can spend hundreds of hours looking at the same character, it would be a very nice thing to be able to change that within the game without having to start over or use mods, etc.

He didn't say when you get out of the tutorial, he said after a few hours of playing. Thus, having to start over and redo the tutorial and so.
What he meant is that you create your character continuously with the perk system, not get stuck with choices you made the first 10 minutes of playing, and actually had nothing to do with the design of the character.

But yea, +1 for non definitive design!

I'm hoping that the chargen system and lighting means there won't need to be too many changes in the "real" gameworld, however someone who could add tattoos/facepaint would be cool. I just don't think there should be anything allowing you to change your face, as that seems a bit farfetched (although magic can do anything I suppose :P ). On a side note, I kind of hope you get scars in battle, whether the player likes it or not (but I doubt that will happen, so don't flame me!)

I wouldn't mind scars, as long as I'm able to get rid of them somehow.

I like the idea but the only thing I would add is once you originally pick your gender and race your stuck as that race and gender.

I hope there is a Hair Stylist in Skyrim as that's something that I wished we had in Oblivion.

Perhaps you misunderstood me, I know what he was talking about, the skills/classes vs the new design and nothing to do with the actual looks of your character.

I was just saying that they should look at the other end of the area in regards to not simply skills, but the physical looks of your character and allow people to change/alter this post-creation so they don't have to redo anything like people did in Oblivion.

There were more reasons people redid the start, and it wasn't simply because of them picking the wrong skills.
