A new start after the Oblivion crisis is finished...

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:19 pm

I was looking through the available mods that alter the main quest and I found ones to start in alternate way, bypass, auto complete with all the rewards, or just leave it hanging to complete sometime at the player's leisure...

What about a mod that would put the land of Cyrodiil into the post-main quest completion state as if some other guy completed it already? This would obviously require starting a fresh game or it would cause some serious problems... :obliviongate: :foodndrink:

The purpose of this would be for players who have done the main quest at least once (or umpteen times) and are bored with their super high level char and want to be able to do new quests and new paths, etc. and generally start over with a new character with no desire to ever do the main quest. All other side quests and guild quests that could be left alone would be left for the player to do.

I know this is not really a new idea and has undoubtedly been brought up in some form or another, but I can't find any recent discussions or mods for this.

I realize this would probably take alot of work to do, likely having to alter Dialogue entries so that everyone doesn't call you Hero of Kvatch and talk about your triumphs, statue, etc. Would this even be possible/feasible or would it break too many quests/dialogue, etc. Do too many quests (vanilla or mods) rely on some main quest completion variable to operate correctly (example: Kvatch Rebuilt) or would there be a workaround (some quest variable value that could work).

I know it would not appeal to everyone, but I am just throwing this idea out there to see what people think, especially the heavy hitter modders who have been around long enough to know (or know better)!

So... what are your thoughts?

You could just download a mainquest completed save game and use that as your base character, use console commands to alter features and such, which resets your stats to play as if someone else did the MQ, but well, someone else did. :D

Not a mod exactly, but won't cause conflicts and you wouldn't have to be bothered with the MQ. :foodndrink:

Something like Morrowind's "Never Say Nerevarine" would indeed be nice, but afaik nothing like that is out there. Why not have a crack at it yourself? It could be fun. :D

Haha, fun in a twisted, sleep depriving way, yes! I might tinker around with that eventually, if nothing like this exists already. However, I do want to get as much feedback on the topic as possible first to see how perilous a course I would take by even attempting such a thing. :)

Well, thats one idea. I mean, I could just alter my main char into a new one since I completed the main quest with him (though I did do alot more quests, too) but I think that would cause a few anomalies like:
Spoiler
having people tell me I look like my statue, when in fact, it's my original char... or, the dreaded... "It's... it's you! THE HERO OF KVATCH!!!"
