DarN Revelation UI Patch

EDIT: File updated to v2.0.

I have decided to package and release this as I do have a couple of plans that I intend to try out with it to get a further blend of the two mods (such as restoring the red coloring on the options to close the menus that was seen in DUI) as well as to help promote it further to those who are not so inclined to edit XML files manually. I'll maintain this thread here as a running track of any updates I manage to stammer out with this, and to take potential requests from the community for aspects to try and address that may not have been covered in the original patching process.

Further, please note, all I really did was take some time to figure out what was causing the anomalies that people kept bringing up in the comments for these mods. As can be clearly seen, all that needs to be done is the removal of an unnecessary file that causes some problems if kept in, so all the original work from the original modders is what is present, and thus they deserve the credit for this and not myself. Please ensure to thank these modders for their hard work, and provide their works with endorsemants on the Nexus site so more people can be aware of these great products.

For those looking to mix together the awesome DUIa11+Hotfix by DarN and the great Interface Revelation by SGHi, but have never been able to get the http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5054 (not needed) to work with your setup due to the DUI updates that invalidated things, then the solution to your problems is finally here! This fix, to my knowledge, does not work for the Return of the Talking Heads mod (that a patch was also included for by Vomitus originally, and this is because I personally do not use it).

The overall effect is brilliant, in my humble opinion, allowing the HUD, Pip-Boy, and Message Box Interfaces to all have their own unique appearance and feel to them. I would then, personally, recommend combining this effect with the new http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15771 by Gopher (yep, that's right, this will work just fine with that), and some of the great HUD additions available from there (I myself am using Dynamic Crosshair, Selective Fire, Stimpack Counter, Adjustable HUD or aHUD, and Immersive HUD or iHUD to get a truly modern and unique interface feel to the game).

Install Process and Download Links:
*Note: If you already have DUI and Hotfix/Patches installed, start on Step 2 of the Process
1) Install http://www.gamesas.com/?showtopic=1045221 (and any updates like the http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2761)
2) Install http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=47 (the textures look just as good to me, and I see no menu lag in my game with it)
3) Install the http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15932 (just let it overwrite any files you already have)
4) Load the game and that stuff will be a nice blend without the text anomalies in the Menus.

File was updated to v1.1 as another fix was reported to me by Maczincus again, so I have applied that which allows us to reintroduce the list_box.xml file and no longer require a user to have to adjust anything.

Another suggestion was proposed by Maczincus as well, but I did not apply that yet as it may have varied results dependent on monitor resolution. I will be doing some testing with this to see how it plays out at some different resolutions and update again when it can be confidently applied.

I may also be adding Maczincus on as a developer to this, since I keep getting reports in from them and it may make it easier if someone else can also update this file if they get fixes made - should be discussing this with them in PM soon on Nexus I hope, more on that to come.

Either way, I suggest people grab the latest version and drop it like a replacer - will work out like the 1.0 release but not lose an XML file that may well be needed for something elsewhere.

Hi Redeye, as you know I endorsed your mod on Nexus....congrats!

Howvever, another xml problem with DarN UI is with the wasteland mastery, max level workaround, skill checks and the problematic level up workaround mod - the last mod was designed for vanilla and not darns. I am not sure about my skill of xml changes, but you seem to be the expert now. I think I got it fixed and tested, but just not sure.

The main file is Wasteland Mastery, which allows for advances levels beyond 20/30 and skills beyond 100 and provides perks for doing so and all is explained and linked here:
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2045

However, the xml level up screen needs fixin for darns (if your looking for another project) with the level up workaround mod:
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=165

Ha Ha - just in case you are bored and looking for something else to fix!

Yep, I saw that, most appreciated, but I do hope you also remember to endorse the other works related as well (and hopefully the original fix) since it is really just picking up where that left off, and the original author deserves most the credit (I'd also personally recommend kicking a Kudos to Maczincus who has been kicking out solutions to other problems to me before I even get a chance to address them).

I also wouldn't go so far as to say I am an expert with XML by any means, I just have to work with it in my job professionally and with my own personal work with web development so I am at least familiar with working on it (though, I won't pretend that the interfaces are certainly some complex XML, more so when you start messing with DarN's stuff). I will probably end up taking a peek at that for you sometime, even though I don't personally use it, once I get some more room on my plate (which will probably be after I get around to kicking out v2 of this project, which I have some specific updates I am looking to introduce that will modernize this a little more and bring it more back in line with DUI as well.

File has been updated to v1.2 which now corrects the scrollbars appearing white in most menus, as well as the highlight effect coming across as white as well. The only spot this has not been corrected yet is the dialogue menu which is proving to be more of a pain to correct than the other menus.

I also included the repositioning suggestions provided relating to the Barter and Container Menus, so things should be aligned with the arrows better now for folks.

You made this?

Great work. I kinda finally figured out how to adjust everything manually after waiting ages for something more user friendly and nothing came. I loved the fact that I was able to drop several extraneous mods like the `empty` remover and Xp experience labels, quests mods, hiding indicaters etc just by editing that file.

Ahh, indeed, just wanted to be sure that it was clear enough that all I am doing is updating the errors that were left from the DUI updates after the original patch came out, as I really do feel the original authors deserve the vast amounts of the credit related to this, since I've only had to change a few small lines of code, remove some comments from code, etc.

Either way, hope people enjoy the blend, I think it is fantastic personally. Still trying to figure out how to properly correct the highlight issues with the Player Dialogue menus without adding a hue to the entire texture of the dialogue box. Once I have that squared away I'll consider the two projects to be properly blended with no anomalies, which will allow me to start working on some new aspects to go along with this that will make a further blend of the two interfaces and add some more modern feel to things.

Oh, small little double post since this has now been updated to v2.0 which includes the following updates:

-Corrected Highlight Issues with Player Dialogue (Red Eye)
-Added Red Text to Exit Buttons on Menus per DUI (Maczincus)

I figure 2.0 is now probably a full integration of the two projects now as it stands, but I may have a few more ideas and tricks up my sleeve to try out here. I suppose if folks have some suggestions or anything as well, those would be welcome too.

How about reducing the size of the text dialogue box? The main problem with that, however, would be editing the image - might be hard to get it looking right without a fair bit of editing.

I could take a look at this actually. To be honest, it was one of the things I was considering in general, is adjusting up the image and how it is called so I can possibly bring back the dynamically scaling dialogue boxes that were featured in DUI. Not sure if I can pull this off though, as I am not great with graphical design in any sense, but my fiance is pretty good, so I will see what she can do with it one way or the other (as I am not sure if it will be possible from a few other standpoints yet as well, but I am going to look into it).

Anyhow, thanks very much for the suggestion.

EDIT: In the next couple of days or so I will be tossing up a couple optional updates, one that will remove the dimming effect on scrollbars and highlights (and subsequently the HP and AP tick marks), and another that will remove the Red Text from the menu exit buttons. Again, these will both be tossed out as optional files, and will follow the same replacer format as the rest of the pack (you'll simply drop the optionals on top of the main pack and overwrite), just in case people prefer either of those variations to the project (variety is the spice of life after all). This will come out, obviously, before any major updates, since it will just really be retroactively taking a couple of the edits out and loading them up including only the needed portions rather than coming up with any new code.

Added the first of the optional files today that will remove the dimming effect we added in previous editions to the highlight and scrollbars (this was added in back when they were still showing as white so they would be less intrusive). With all the original errors corrected, these no longer need the dimming effect applied, but I decided not to remove it from the main package as people may well like it that way, so the removal is simply an optional add-on that works just like the rest of the patch (as a replacer). I'll probably end up tossing up a no red exit menu variation sometime later today, and then from there I will start looking into bringing back the dynamically scaling dialogue boxes seen in DUI but that doesn't work with the current texture used by Revelation.

Just a small little bump for those that may want this and have missed it before - sorry, no new updates or features have been added since I am still without a FO3 install right now (but my gaming PC lives again with a new graphics card since I burned out the last one - so maybe sometime soon I'll look at this again and see if there are any other neat tweaks to be made).
