Pack of Arrows drop whenever i'm putting an Arrow into my Bo

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:35 pm

So i'll give you a scenario

I have 70 iron arrows
I string one and I noticed later my arrow count was around 16

so I load the save where I had 70 arrows, and string up an arrow, i immediatly notice my arrow count drops to 19

I look on the ground and a quiver of 50 arrows is there, just from me stringing up an arrow on my bow..

very wierd problem and I've never had this in all the years i've used mods

wow...

Unbelievable!

This makes me very sad....

I guess I will be putting Read Me file keyword lock outs on my Combat mods again.

Starting with ver 2.5 (and there are new rev now) Duke Patrick's Combat Archery, at the very top of the mod description on TesNexus and in the read me file in capitalized letters:

" YOU MUST READ THE QUIVER LIMIT SECTION AGAIN EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT NEW TO THIS MOD!"

Edit:
Actually this thing today was just the "last straw", what really made me "sad" was some jerk gave one of my other mods a bad endorsemant for the mod not working with companions, but he had not read that the read me specifically WARNS that it would not work with companions unless you use my companion friendship ring. So instead of following the directions he dissed my mod "officially" with a thumbs down on TesNexus. I emailed the Tes administration about that to ask if that was their intention with the endorsemants but I have not heard back from them. So I have been a little sore on that subject and then this one today just sent me over the edge.

I need a drink...

This is unrelated, but whatever happened to your 'cold' mod Duke? The comment about file lockouts reminded me about it, and I remember I always wanted to install it but when I finally got around to it I couldn't find the file anymore.

I was just thinking about that mod last night.

I want to include over heating in the mod (such as around lava or massive fires) and I want to find some other penalty other than attribute manipulation. I am tired of the "invisible" attribute reductions and the mods that script fight over change Actor Values.

and then I will upload it again.
But I am worried about having too many "available" mods that are not 3d modeling related.
I just do not have time to support dozens of mods that have no 3d modeling involved.

Lol sorry mate...

its just when you're installing literally 100 mods at once (not exhaggerating)

its hard to take time to read all their little fixes and such, but thanks for your answer.

SimpleFoo

Seriously, I do not use many very popular mods BECAUSE I do no t have time yet to read their read me files.

I get a lot of crap from some of my friends for not using some of the most popular mods, but I refuse to load a mod that I do not know what it will do or what mistakes I may make.

Modders and their FREAKING HOURS of work deserve better than that!

Sorry but your excuse is not acceptable to me. However as long as you do not disrespect the mods you use (no bad reviews and no bad mouthing the mods) even if they damage your game you admit you are to blame and not the mods then I will accept that you are only hurting your self by not reading the read me files.

i personally like readmes. and i think with all the long hours modders put into their work, it behooves us users to check the readme's for whatever notes the authors might have. Plus, Duke's mods usually have really interesting information in them even if you don't necessarily need them to run the mod. :)

So, while I sympathize with the OP for running into a confusing issue, it really was totally avoidable. As for the user who gave you a thumbs down Duke, they dont do those users who would be turned off by the thumbs down any favor. your mods are excellent, and there are those of us who appreciate all you do.

though, in the OP's defense, he at least didnt really complain. just asked for help politely. :)

You are right. I let the other related issue get to me, building up pressure and then this post just pop it.

I let my imagination run on what might have been said here (if I or any read me file readers had not happen to see this post) once he was able to isolated it to the combat archery mod.

I have let several bad endorsemants stand on my mods on TesNexus with no more than a shrug, my work is primely POC experiments for game mechanics Ideas I have had for many years. So I do not expect my mods to be "popular" but when my work is wrongly criticized because the critic is lazy, stupid or greedy and will not put 1/10 the effort into my mod that I did to make it then I wonder why I am doing it.

So I may have transfered that frustration here when I read his post.

Actually I think your mod is quite brilliant, and I never had/would badmouth a mod over an issue it was causing me, i'm not a child after all.

I completely missed the fact that this mod came with an INI file or I would've checked it over, as I did with supreme magicka, unnecessary violence etc.

Anyway I thank you again, and am really enjoying this mod.

It makes archery feel much more realistic and useful at that.

I don't know if this will make you feel better or worse duke, but I currently have 53 negative endorsemants on nexus for UV, and every single one of them is because the person couldn't be bothered to read the instructions.

No matter what we do, some people just won't bother and if the mod doesn't do exactly what they expect instantly, they'll attack it. (btw, simplefoo that's *not* directed at you)

I tried enforcing it last time, and that seemed to make matters even worse - to the point where I had an unbelievable amount of abuse mailed to me. I'm genuinely not sure what to do this time round as the mod is even more complicated than it used to be...

Skip the kill command and just leave a variable in the INI that prevents the mod from doing anything at all.

Leave them to figure it out.

i remember that mod......you had to change something in the ini or it wouldnt work....i actually thought that was kind of smart. :) why dont you just disable mail and endorsemants........to be honest i never saw the point in them anyways i dont gauge mods by ratings at all but by what people say in the comments section. its easy to seperate the useful comments from the 12 year old kids with ADHD. another good way to find mods is simply by looking at load orders that people post on the forum......ive probably found a good 20 or so mods that way that i would never have searched for on my own. i mean come one who actually searches for transdimensional space cheese. :)

If I were you all - I would just have wrote 'read the manual' ... that is on a thread like this after the mod was found to be the one causing the behavior.

OR to put it in bold at the top 'if you have a problem then tell me where in the manual the instructions are not sufficient' and if they don't do that then the reply is read the manual.

This is video game land, granted PC gaming (often more mature), but regardless video game land. You are not going to be attracting the life scholars or those who prize reading with video games. Even then the theme - fantasy - often considered a low pulp-form of writing. This does not shout 'Man I'd love to really sit down for a few days and read a very complex manual regarding how this game is to be altered just so..'

Of course there are exceptions and I've been blown away by some of the intelligence on this board, so don't take it as if I mean you (whoever that is). Present company excluded - I refer to them.

I would think that not reading the manual is the norm not the exception and as such the normal response should be 'read the manual' or 'rtfm' or 'how did the manual not answer that question' and so on.

Even then those that read manuals are going to get things wrong or misunderstand. I read manuals but I know I miss details - it will happen. You add 100 mods each with a manual that is a lot of work.

That did not work for me, they just post to non-related threads I am in to ask questions.
Some would come here get an account and then email me.

A few email my RL on line business email address!

wow... I guess I ...woo I do not even know what to say.

well, I just spent over an hour discovering you cannot set ref variable to apple from an INI file.
I wonder why? I really wanted to use words in the INI this time for the mod keys.

But I am back to using number Keys again.

One thing I did try for my Hammer Blade mod was to put the read me info IN the game in the form of pop ups and books and scrolls and NPC dialogue. That seem to really help a lot. But OMG that added way too much work when I should NOT have to do that unless I am paid to make a game.

And what mod now is causing such a problem? I saw this occasionally too and I'm sure I don't have any archery specific mods besides what may be already included in oscuros or other bigger FCOM parts.

I do read readmes, I usually don't study them.

They're not talking about the weird floating "ball o' arrows" you get when entering cells sometimes. This is specifically about a Combat Archery feature where over-stuffing your quiver will cause the excess ones to fall out when you draw your first arrow.

The "ball o' arrows" is a game engine bug related to you entering an interior cell while doing a pincushion imitation.

Ball of arrows bug? Not sure what that is. On the other hand my chars are usually up close and personal with greatswords. I just had it once or twice that when I equip a 60+ pack of arrows that alot of them dissapear after shooting the first arrow (the first time I saw it far to late that I have far less arrows with me than I remebered and the second time I did not found the stack laying around). Since I shoot not often I did not mind much and now usually just carry a 20 piece stacks; just remembered from the topic here and hickjacked it.
