Worried About Something

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 11:52 am

And that something is the size of the player base.

I'm planning to get Brink for the Xbox 360 and playing it on Xbox Live, so that I may play it with a couple friends of mine. However, I'm worried that hardly anyone will play it on Xbox 360 because the game is being released for PlayStation 3 and PC as well. Nothing makes me more sad then a game that thrives on online play having no one to play online with. Is this something I should worry about, or is said worry pointless?

Can't follow OPs logic. How does a game being multi-plat translate into less players online? What are you really trying to say? That you wish Brink were an Xbox exclusive? Then I would have to disagree. Good day sir.

No. That's not what I was saying at all.

Simply... I was wondering if the player base for the Xbox 360/Xbox Live version of Brink would be relatively high, seeing as the game is split amongst 3 gaming platforms, with no cross-platform support (i.e. Shadowrun). (This question was answered and my worries relieved). Luckily there are helpful people on these forums to answer such questions. No need to be so rude or confrontational, nor put words into peoples mouths that aren't tangibly there.

It translates to less players for him to play.

People who are buying it on ps3 or pc and only play on those systems are a wash to him, and help him in no way.(This is an oversimplification as them talking about it might generate buzz and sales that get people buying it on 360, but just follow me).
People who are buying it for 360 are going to play against him and his player base.

It is the people who can buy it for multiple systems and would have gotten it for 360 if it wasn't on other systems that are hurting him. So in a way there is a group that he would have gotten to play, that he won't get to play now because it is multi-system.

Is this group statistically significant enough to warrant caring about? I don't think so. Would it enough to hurt brinks sales in general and thus lowering the possibility of a sequel if it was a 360 exclusive, possibly.

Fair enough, although I think there are going to be enough people buying this game for all platforms and some buying copies for both to see a healthy turnout online without a doubt.

Besides, even if you have a half full room of players the AI will fill in the gaps and they are very good so there is that to consider as well.

Seeing those charts almost makes me worried about the PC, seeing as it's not even on the charts.

Well most of the diehard PC SD fans tend to stay at the SD forum.

Currently the numbers seem to be in Pre-Orders (for each console so we can keep this from becoming multiple threads)

Xbox 360: 175,000 copies
PS3 : 49,000 copies

Think of it this way, you'll never need more than 16 players online at a time for a full game. :D

It's likely going to have a smaller base than other games, but it should be a healthy grouping of players.

if xbox was an exclusive there would still be the same amount of players (except those like me who have both xbox and a ps3 and are planning to get the ps3 version) personally im going with the xbox since i just got it and only have halo.

the 360 version has outsold both the pc and ps3 version.
360 version has sold about double what ps3 has sold. the ps3 version has sold the least.

And those charts are just the US charts, when you take into consideration other countries (which you may/may not play against depending on time zone difference) there should be alot of people to play with.
