Many Mod-related questions

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 8:37 am

Ok everyone, sorry about opening up another thread for this, but I seem to be stuck with a lot of question about mods again. :brokencomputer: Last time, hopefully.

1) I had a look at the MMM mod, but in a trailer I saw a strange big white thing with many eyes and huge nails. Also, a 'Beholden' an odd floating ball with a big eye that looks happy as it kills people. Seriously? In my opinion MMM would be much better without these weird creatures. Can someone contradict me on this?
2)After reading some stuff on load order, I still don't fully grasp the concept. So your PC crashes a lot if the mods are loaded in a wrong order? How do you fix this? I already have the Oblivion Mod Manager on my Pc, but I don't really know what to do with. (It's sitting in my data folder)
3)What is OBSE? (I saw it as a requirement for a mod I wanted, Scorn's Vampirism.)
4)Are there any good (non-nvde, Oblivion is just an RPG for me) body replacers out there? Which one would you guys recommend? I'm asking this because a lot of good clothing/armour mods out there seem to require one or the other.
5)Unofficial Oblivion Patch: I downloaded this, great. The guy in Anvil, Hauls-Ropes-Faster now offers Athletics training like he should. But I still can't see the missing chapel from outside the walls?
6)Lastly, are there any good RP'ing mods you would reccomend? (I have a Breton Vampire dude, A Mystic Elf Ranger girl and an Imperial Legionaire)

Thanks in advance to those who answer this thread

1) MMM comes with plugins that will allow you remove certian creatures from the game like beholden etc..The Frost Giant cannot be removed..You can find all the info in MMM thread in my sig

2) Better Obliivion Sorting Software will help with load order's.

4) Most body come with a non-nvde variety has well..If using Overhauls for female's EVE HGEC and Robert's Male Musclar those have armor and clothing for the overhauls once again.

Beholden's and most other new creatures can be disabled durin install if you make the omod version, i play wihtout Beholdens, slimes and wyverns, i do leave Balrogs though :bolt:

2)After reading some stuff on load order, I still don't fully grasp the concept. So your PC crashes a lot if the mods are loaded in a wrong order? How do you fix this? I already have the Oblivion Mod Manager on my Pc, but I don't really know what to do with. (It's sitting in my data folder)

Wrong load order can cause crashes and prevent mods from working properly. Thankfully the good people of Oblivion modding community have come up with the tool http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20516 that sorts your load order automatically.

3)What is OBSE? (I saw it as a requirement for a mod I wanted, Scorn's Vampirism.)

OBSE is an extension to the Oblivion executable, for the end user it simply means it allows more complex mods.

4)Are there any good (non-nvde, Oblivion is just an RPG for me) body replacers out there? Which one would you guys recommend? I'm asking this because a lot of good clothing/armour mods out there seem to require one or the other.

Most body replacers have nvde and underwear versions, including HGEC that is one of the most supported bodies.

Can't really comment about the rest, and i've never noticed any issues with the Anvil chapel :hehe:

OBSE is a must-have so definately get it. When I started oblivion with mods i didnt understand OBSE but it just allows modsmodders to go further with oblivion (such as deadly reflex and many other great mods) but you wont need to play around with it as long as youve got it installed in the right place :P though you will have to run oblivion through it (OBSE Loader)

BOSS is fantastic and if you dont know about load order then you NEED to get it.

Like the others said most body mods come with clothing options, you just need a basic understanding of you OBLIVION/DATA folder, to move and replace meshes (at least with the one i use http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14942, but the mod's readme will help)

I dont know quite what you mean about the chapel, but if you are having trouble with not seeing distant buildings then go for http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15781

and for roleplaying mods:

There was a thread i saw a few days ago on here askin about roleplaying mods so you could check for that

http://www.tesnexus.com/ have a category specifically for 'Immersion' mods, so its a good idea checking on that.

Hope that helps :)

Yes, I can. :) Frost Giants are lore correct. Check http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Karstaag from Bloodmoon. So not so weird.

Thanks for the answers people!

About the load order, I got BOSS, ran it, it did something, and now I have a modlist. Does that mean I'm sorted concerning the load order? I assume I need to run every time I install something new.

I got the OBSE, but I needed the 1.2.416 (or something) patch, but It still says I can't use it. Do I need to reinstall the game now?

Does someone have link to HGEC non-nvde? Typing it in TESNEXUS gets me several pages of results.

The 1.2... patch is for Oblivion itself, you can download that on the main page. Go to the EVE link in Corepc's signature, it has the body mod and the female clothes for Oblivion all in one. When installing it you will have options for the underwear version of the mod. It installs through Obmm so try using that program a little and get a feel for it. It's very easy to use, the first utility I ever downloaded. Just takes a little practice :read: Hope this helps a little bit, and good luck!
