what games do you recommend getting from GOG

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:43 am

Finally deciding to pick up some games from GOG.com. There are a couple of games that I found that I am interested in, but I am also open to suggestions for those who have played them. The games I found are both Gothic games, both Icewind Dale games, and was thinking about picking up Rainbow Six while I was at it. So yes, any other suggestions would be great. Already own both Fallout games, as well as Planescape, and baldur's Gate 2, so I am good on those. Also, can anyone tell me if Gothic 2(one included) would play well on a Dimension E520 with integrated graphics? Thanks for any advice, or recommendations.

Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition (NWN + both expansions - http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/neverwinter_nights_diamond_edition/) is more than worth the $9.99 asking price if you're interested in exploring its multiplayer options. There are also lots of community-made single player adventures worth playing, but I wouldn't recommend it for the original or expansion campaigns (OC is awful; SoU dull; HotU average, in my view).

Regardless of your game preferences I'd recommend Psychonauts and Beyond Good and Evil- very fun and memorable games.

For RPGs Gothic 1&2 are highly recommended (but might be a bit sluggish with an integrated graphics card), along with Arcanum, Betrayal at Krondor, NWN (mainly for the user-made modules), and Divine Divinity.

If you like TBS games then I'd recommend HoMM 2&3, Age of Wonders (Wizard's Throne and Shadow Magic), Master of Magic, Master of Orion (1&2), and Disciples 2.

For adventure games I'd highly recommend Sanitarium and The Longest Journey.

And if you have any fondness for shmups then I'd recommend Raptor and Tyrian (available for free).

I'd also recommend Evil Genius, which is base-building/strategy type game somewhat similar to Dungeon Keeper.

I forgot Neverwinter Nights Diamond is on there so I second the vote for that. Find a good online server and it might as well be the only game you own. Plus the toolset is pretty easy to get a hang of and use to make your own campaigns.

Beyond Good And Evil and Psychonauts if they're available.

I hope GoG will release Grim Fandango some day.

Yeah, that's one that I'm really excited to play. I am also hoping for System Shock 2.

Sadly it's in the hands of EA, and so far I don't think there's a single EA game on GOG.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constructor_%28video_game%29 is a good forgotten game that IMO deserves the same classic status as Bullfrog's strategy titles.

The player controls a construction company, and aim to drive the other players out of business. Using teams of workers and foremen, the player must build facilities to manufacture building materials (a sawmill, concrete works, etc), in order to build houses (ranging from simple wooden cabins to large mansions) in which to house tenants who pay rent and thus fund the company, as well as producing new workers, tenants and other characters. Along the way, the player can build homes for undesirables such as gangsters and hippies, who work to undermine the enemy.

It was added to GoG last year.

Arx, Heroes 3, Psychonauts, Beyond Good & Evil. I also second the notion of NWN making it possible to quit any other game. Wonderful persistent world servers out there.

They're worried that a 25 year old game will compete with a modern remake?

Given that we're talking about EA here, they're probably not entirely wrong...
