BattleMages

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:40 pm

Well, here and there i catched, while reading, all sort of stuffs about Battle Mages.. that they're some sort of elite class or something... Like they had a base thing in the Battlespire, could someone give me a page (wich I didn't find) or give me his/hers own understandings about Battlemages and their role in the Elder Scrolls lore?

The Imperial Battlemages were a presumably large and elite group. They'd be an aristocracy, obviously, Ocato being a good example. I don't know where the rest of them were during the Oblivion Crisis, though.

I would assume they were guarding the imperial city in someway or another, or perhaps they've been stationed in morrowind.

Response to Bero's Speech has a particularly venomous line about battlemages in it, saying they were closer to politicians than mages.

Doesn't the mages guild had some quests with battlemages, and aren't they guarding the Arcane University, or are they other tpyes of battlemages....

At the Arkane University are just Legionmages - not Battlemages AFAIK. The Imperial Battlemage is a title for very strong and loyal mages for the emperor. Remember, that Zurin Arctus and Jagar Tharn were both Imperial Battlemages. After the destruction of the Battlespire, there are only two Battlemages remaining. The Hero of Battlespire and some other surviver. Maybe this surviver was Ocato, because after the Simulacrum, Uriel Septim couldn't trust the remaining Battlemages. It is told, that Tharn used some Battlemages in his leadership as inferiors. The only mages, Uriel could have trust, were the Hero of Battlespire and the second survivor.

That's just a theorie -_-

There's battlemages, Battlemages and the Imperial Battlemage.

All Battlemages are battlemages, and the Imperial Battlemage is both a Battlemage and a battlemage, but not all battlemages are Battlemages.

And no I'm not just being cute.

First, I got your battlemage vs Imperial Battlemage, I didn't get the middle one.

Second, I'd imagine that after the destruction of the Battlespire, they'd work to establish a new way to create Imperial Battlemages.

The distinction is between properly trained Battlemages, trained at the Battlespire, and THE Imperial Battlemage - the title/office (also assumed to be a high ranking Battlemage). A simple battlemage in the lower case is any caster also proficient in arms and armor who may not have necessarily been trained in any official sense.

Hm...
Isn't battlemage just a subclass within mages' class, isn't that obvious? Mage who is specialized for destructive magic and combat in general?
Imperial Battlemages were/are elitist organization (order) for such individuals in Cyrodill (and Empire in general) who are in service of Empire, usually within Imperial legion?
In Morrowind every Imperial holding (fort or mine) has at least one battlemage or spellsword.

It isn't hard to imagine that IB has corrupted individuals and political subdivisions which are deep under the surface.
