Quick Dragon Question

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 8:39 am

Does anyone know if all the dragons are flying? Or if any of them are ground based. Basically, is there any lore or confirmed info on varience in morphology beyond the few screenshots of a wyvern (I think) looking dragon?

Well, we know from the devs that the Dragons can fly and land on the ground to, you know, do stuff on the group I guess. We haven't even seen a really clear picture (up close and detailed) of a dragon, so its a bit impossible to know if -all- the ones in the game will fly around. I'm sure theres at least one in a cave somewhere that will have no space to fly, whether it has the ability to or not.

There's a screenshot of a dragon flying around. I can't really imagine dragons ONLY flying, I assume fighting them will be mostly on ground. It wouldn't really be possible to kill it with melee if it was in the air constantly.

You're supposed to use dragon shouts to deal with dragons.

Yes, it has been confirmed that dragons can both fly and land.

bad wording i suppose. I know they CAN fly and CAN land. I want to know if there are Drakes. Dragons that are not capable of flight because of a lack of wings. Or if there are dragons without limbs like seen in some mythology. I want to know about their configuration. Not how to fight them. Sorry for my lack of clarity.

But it hasn't been confirmed anywhere that you NEED those shouts to fight dragons.
I think they'll help a bunch, but you won't be forced to.

And anyways, how are you supposed to kill the first one then, if you learn them by killing them?

You get the dragon shouts (or just a word?) from the soul of the dragon, so I don't think you'd have to use dragon shouts to kill a dragon, that sounds like a Catch 22 situation.

Every time we've seen a dragon in the flesh they've been configured exactly the same way. Two wings, no arms or forelegs, two legs.

Peryite is depicted as a creature with two wings, two arms, two legs, and a very long serpentine body and with serpentine head, but we've never seen whatever the hell kind of creature that is in any of the games. So we can't say that whatever form Peryite takes is any form of creature known to inhabit Tamriel.

Judging from the few screenshots (I think only 2?) that include dragons of Skyrim, they don't appear to look anything like the avatar of Akatosh seen in Oblivion, if that helps to answer your question.

What are you talking about, They look very much like Akatosh in terms of basic anatomy. Both have wings instead of forelimbs, both have two legs, and both have long tails. Now sure, the Skyrim dragons have different aesthetics too them, but both have exactly the same configuration, which is what the similarity the OP is interested in.

If they only have wings, then I would like to know the story behind this http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/179859_496613591403_131368351403_6226550_2332545_n.jpg. From that I assumed there would be some kind of "worm" or lesser dragons, but maybe not. From the current screenshots, the dragons do look pretty bad ass. :flamed:

I think it would be cool if there were Wyrms Wyverns Drakes Dragons High Dragons Alduin of course and i wouldnt be opposed to a water dragon and before anyone goes crazy, the word dragon in the english language has roots to water serpents.

I wouldn't count on a statue for biology lessons. Hell, Cyrodillic tradition depicts Akatosh in their stained glass windows and statues as a man with a dragon and human head.

Though, The Prophet does make mention of Sir Amiel slaying a wyrm. If it reflects any sort of real creature, it could be a wyrm.

just to be clear i know a wyrm is a dragon i just mean different names to correlate with different anatomical configuration.

Ha, that's true. I was looking at some of the stained glass in Oblivion a little bit ago, and they all looked pretty generic and human. I do love the new concept artwork they've shown though, very inspirational.

Looking at them again, it's entirely possible that I am very wrong about that. You're right, they don't have the front legs and if they were standing upright, they might look just like Akatosh. I guess due to the positions they're in, it seemed like they would be on all fours like a crocodile, but that can't be the case without any front legs and no talons on their wings.

Im not going to be a happy camper if Bethesda puts a bunch of amazing jaw dropping variety in the gameworld and then all of the monsters are carbon copies like in OB. I think if they are going to really go for diversity and a flowing gameworld then multiple monster skins and basic designs would really help.
