Toaster's Playable & NPC Creatures: Auroran?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:35 am

After finding the mod recently made by TheTalkieToaster: Playable & NPC Creatures, I've been overwhelmed by different possibilities of characters/races that could be made.

Neatly packaged with this mod is a tutorial on how to make other creatures playable, but sadly I do not have the skill or knowledge to get past the first step on how to do this, so that's why I'm here asking any modders out there to make a working Auroran race to go along with the ones already available (Minotaur, Spider Daedra, Flame Atronach, & Goblin). As the Aurorans are humanoid, according to the tutorial this should make things much easier, but I really don't know anything other than that. That's pretty much all I understood out of the guide. At least I tried though, right? A few times. ...

I've tried asking on the Nexus Forums, but it obviously isn't as famous as the gamesas Forums, so here is my second attempt.

There are other mods that try to make a playable Auroran race, but it simply recreates their armor and makes it playable, and that just doesn't cut it; especially now that this mod is available.

I've already spoken to TheTalkieToaster about this, but he is busy with other projects, which is completely understandable - why else would that tutorial have been created? : So that people like me can ask others instead of him... lolz :D

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

If anyone else agrees, then by all means comment.

I'm wondering why making the armor playable isn't enough for them though. They are basically a walking armor with a human shape. No one knows how they look without their armor, so what do you have in mind? The only thing that you could achieve in this case is that you could use Xivilai animations instead of NPC animations.

Yes, I know, but it does make a difference, if only to me. I like the idea of playing the creature more than playing an Imperial (for example) in Auroran armor.

Getting those additional animations is like a bonus, since they are assigned to this race only. I can switch to my other characters and they will be using default animations. I also have friends who have other character profiles, so this all around makes things more handy.

Speaking of the playable creatures mod (which is pretty damn awesome), I'd really like a playable skeleton or even a lich, but sadly my nifskope skills are limited to assigning textures to models. :P

One thing that i frequently point out (and working on a mod for) is that Talkie's mod replaces the skeleton and animations, and only subs in a body mesh to replace the generic one if the slot is not filled. A lich is certainly possible because it's roughly human shaped and the for the race can be made to look lich like, thats what he did with the goblins and it works effectively, a skeleton on the other hand will be near impossible, as the shape is smaller and totally different, so it would stop you wearing anything that shows skin.

Like I said, Im working on a body mesh replacer mod that wont require you to edit every mesh with the skin part, the following picture would use NifSE to modify the mesh when you're wearing it, it removes the skin parts from the model and allows me to put the skeleton parts underneath. I've half written the script for this...but NifSE is still buggy.

If a creature is bigger then the normal human part (like the goblin torso, which is huge) then i do some tricky model/skeleton resizing and all clothing/armor larger around that area of the body.

I'd enjoy playing as a lich. I also think it'd be really fun (and humorous) to play as a Scamp... lolz.

But for now I just want my favorite Daedra creatures playable. I've got the Golden Saints, Dremora, & Flame Atronach. Last is the Auroran, which I'd love to be like the Flame Atronach, based on Playable & NPC Creatures.

Oh, well there you go. My eyes tend to glaze over when it comes to technical stuff like that, so I had no idea (though it makes sense) that a playable skeleton wouldn't work. :)

I remember hearing about that mesh replacer, now that you mention it! Glad to see it's still in the works. :)

I asked da mage to do this for me and he's accepted saying he'll work on it over the weekend. Thank you for your help; I appreciate it. I hope this mod gets attention from more people capable of making other creature races.

You know, now I'm intensely curious about what Aurorans actually look like without the "armor". Are they birdlike? Are they beings of electrical energy? Questions, questions....

I like to imagine them like the Golden Saints' big, bad cousin... Like Xivilai to Dark Elves, hehe... I can't imagine they're pretty. I just hope they don't have a face like Predator. Only a mother could love ;] And I doubt mama Meridia's made some butt-ugly servants, but you never know... There's probably a reason why they're wearing full helms though. Oh well, the fact that there isn't much known about them is probably what makes them so intriguing to me anyway :]
