hi im just curious im on ps3 and i was wondering if the new engine will increase the frame rate and create less performance issues compared to the gamebryo one.

You had poor frame rate and had performance issues on the PS3?

not massive but it did seem at times to have a lower frame rate, such as sometimes i can be randomly travelling on fallout 3 and oblivion and the FPS would drop for no apparent reason.

I'm on PS3 too. Only times I had low FPS was during battles with a large number of NPCs. We don't know much about the new engine yet, but if it isn't an improvement, they wouldn't have bothered.

the PS3 did have some areas that suffered bad frame rate, I'm looking at you Kvatch, but other then that it was mainly due to the installing at first but after that it smoothed out : )

But in answer to your question, yes I am sure it will improve frame rate very much so : )

Maybe. The problem is, you can't do more on the same hardware and expect better results, and a lot of the reason Oblivion lagged can't be removed in software. Some of it can, and hopefully it will be, and loading times can be masked - so "Maybe".

Most of it can actually. One need only look at FO3 to see what effects of even a rudimentary occlusion culling routine has on optimization. FO3 shows us just how monumentally unoptimized Oblivion's engine is. I bet they have even better culling routine this time around judging by the increase in polys present in the Skyrim screens. If we are extra lucky they will have decreased the CPU tax from AI and scripting as well.

Some of it can, but I imagine most of us are using F3 as a baseline anyway - that's much better, but can still suffer performance issues when loading.

The Oblivion engine was horribly horribly horrible. The FO3 engine is better, but there's still room for improvement.

Low FPS on consoles? That's new.

Guess they're becoming more like PC's more than we expected...:D

I thought they were both Gamebryo? But yeah Fallout performs much better regardless.

I would imagine the creation engine will perform much much better. It is designed specifically for the game, where as Gamebryo was a third party engine.

FO3 used an improved engine from Oblivion. Gamebryo is a renderer, not an engine.
