The Locking of Suggestion Threads

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:11 pm

I read a little about the forum rules and found nothing against posting your own suggestion threads. So why are people locking every single suggestion thread except for one? I understand that you want to minimize the ammount of suggestion threads posted, but why? What's the point? A forum is meant for discussion. There is no need to have a lower ammount of certain threads. People should be allowed to post what ever they want, as long as they are following the forum rules, without getting locked. Here's what I don't like about making one thread for suggestions:

You don't recieve direct critique. Since you haven't started a thread with your ideas, no one really tells you what they think of it. They either post their own ideas or will be discussing something else. Someone might discuss your ideas, but it's kind of annoying when a bunch of other people are posting things into the same thread, and you have to dig around to find responses, if there are any. It's just a lot more simple if there's a single thread for your ideas.

If people don't respond to your post in another thread, it probably doesn't deserve it's own thread anyway.

There are hundreds of people posting in this forum right now. If everyone posts a suggestion thread we'll have nothing but suggestion threads. Its better to keep it in one thread, especially since most people want the same basic things.

Duplicate threads are against the rules. Multiple suggestion threads can be considered a refined duplicate or derivative.

Freedom of speech has nothing to do with cluttering a forum with suggestion threads.

This does not violate the freedom of speech in any way, shape, or form.

No, that's not what I meant. What I meant is that if someone locks this thread, there is no other reason to do so unless they were unhappy with my opinion on their constant thread locking.

Or, you know, you're breaking the rules. Its against the rules to discuss moderator actions publicly.

I will try to explain.

We do not indiscriminately close topics, they are always closed for a reason and if the member has a problem the correct procedure is to contact the moderator via PM and have a word with them, we are always happy to explain.

If everyone was allowed to make a topic about whatever idea came to mind the forums would become very cluttered, and with a busy forum such as this one it is even more important for the moderators to keep it tidy. We request ideas and suggestions be kept in one topic - it is no different to keeping them on one forum except it gives everyone the chance to find them easily and comment on them if they want to. Some topics are left open but the moderators deem that they are worth their own thread separately to the Ideas and Suggestions topic - that is up to the moderator dealing with it and they have had a lot of experience in deciding this.

However, once again, a PM to the moderator is the thing to do if you feel their action was incorrect.
