So this Nord we're seeing is pretty much the "default&#3

I don't want to appear the crazy feminist, but I was just wondering why the default guy can't be a woman for a change. I mean, there are so many female TES players. It would seem fair to acknowledge the fact that the hero oft the game can just as well be a girl.

Or would that stop the male players from buying the game, since it would seem to "girly"? :-)

wonder woman does the female nord voices. what more convincing does marketing need? also nordic fur armours for women don't normally look too warm so it really wont hurt sales to the male demographic.

it's more likley to alienate the female buyers to be honest.

Skyrim would be the wrong game to do that if you ask me. The muscular Nord warrior fits perfectly IMO

But in any case, the cover guy/girl is not important. It's not like the "default" character is canon in any way. If Beth did have a woman, I doubt anyone would complain. Infact they could just create one now. More art for us is a good thing. Personally, in the previous game, I didn't even realize the guy in the legion armor was supposed to be the hero of Kvatch. He seemed like just another imperial legion soldier. (Was funny how they had him in an armor you don't normally get in the game hehe).

But keep in mind this picture is soaked in stereotype. See how no one complains how he must be cold or why he must be muscular or whatever. If they had the equivalent in a female version, many women here would be more upset with the clothes than pleased.

That sounds fair, but it might probably be better suited to another game. The idea of the Nords, muscular, tough warriors a la Beowulf lends more to a typical view of medieval males. While a woman could also be tough, it might seem out of place in this archetype, and it is true that women are less capable of physical feats of strength than men in general. I could see another province such as Valenwood or High Rock having a female character. It's just the viking archetype is typically male and typically represents brute strength.

Eh, the cover will most likely be like Morrowind and Oblivion again with just a scroll and a symbol anyway :) but I like the new promo guy. He looks badass. The Oblivion guy was just "eh, let's show a guy in regular Imperial armour cause the game is in Cyrodiil. That works."

Yea. "Cover" was a wrong word to use, but I couldn't think of a better one. "Promo" is much more suitable word.

lol I wasn't complaining, I was just wondering. As so many "default" charactes are male, even if the game completely leaves the choice up to you what you want to be (wasn't it similar in Mass Effect, for example?), I was just curious if there was a reason.

And you're right, Oblivion's default guy really looked like a random Imperial Legion soldier. Took me a while as well to realize he wasn't supposed to be your ordinary town guard, but the hero of Kvatch.

Yeah it's a bit stupid now with more and more girl gamers. They need to show the female role in games a bit more, alongside the male roles. Maybe they should have both a male and female in Skyrim promos. The female could be more of a theif or mage to compliment the masculine Nord warrior.

Even if you did complain, it wouldn't be bad. It's a fair comment. Especially for a game like mass effect, that has 2 defined characters, and a diverse fanbase, it would make sense to use both of them. Don't know how they thought that through and went the way they did.

Would be nice but I doubt we'll ever get it. Only games that'll have a women for advertising are games where we can only play as one, like Tomb Raider. At least Bioware was nice enough to release a few screenshots of the female PC in DA2 so far (and did live demo featuring her not so long ago :)). Official advertisemant though, always going to be male. :(
