Geography of Skyrim

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:41 pm

So what is the geography of Skyrim?

Are there any known lakes, rivers, mountains, volcanoes, valleys, oceans etc? Everyone seems a little worried that it could be all snow covered, but where theres mountains theres valleys and rivers...I hope.

I would like to see a massive cavern system....all interconnected underneath a mountain.

Skyrim has the tallest mountain in Nirn, not counting the volcano in Morrowind

From what I know the South Side is mostly Mountains but not all of Skyrim is Snow although it is Cold, I mean remember what that one Nord in Anvil said. "We came down here so that we don't have to freeze our butts off in Skyrim".

First Edition didn't exactly pan out in how they treated Cyrodiil, but its a basis.

Skyrim definitely needs WAY BETTER RIVER/STREAM systems than past games had.

No kidding. Considering there are no dams of any sort on the Niben, it seemed impossible that it should look like the Mississippi or Missouri Rivers...

It seems to me too that because lower elevations are normally warmer, they could make the south eastern part of the map colder because of all the mountains (from what the maps show) and the regions with lower elevations warmer. Just food for thought.

Oh yeah, snowy mountain tops all the way.

The maps give some good information on where mountains will be. Anyone know from lore or books anything about lakes or rivers? Anything?

Is it all ocean north of Skyrim? http://images.uesp.net//c/c3/TamrielMap.jpg

What I would dearly love to see is a bunch of tiny tributary streams feeding into a feeder small river, which leads into a larger river...

But of course, we must recall how this is in the frigid northlands...and some bodies of water would just be frozen. Which makes me wonder...is it possible to have the ice "melt" during summer months, and then refreeze?

If you read the Imperial Pocket Guide you would have seen this "The War of Bend'r-Mahk increased the territory that is considered Skyrim considerably, allowing the Nordic counts to swallow up many miles of eastern High Rock and Hammerfell. Resistance by the Bretons and the Redguards is feeble in the cities of Jehenna and Elinhir, and more active in the border zones of the countryside. The city-state of Dragonstar continues to be divided into western and eastern sections, walled off from one another, each with its own government, and each with an atmosphere of mistrust and fear. There are few days without an act of terror from one resistance group or another, though, so far little territory has changed hands since the days of the Imperial Simulacrum."

So It isn't all snow and ice, it really depends on the location and scale inside Skyrim to see what kinds of natural features there will be.
