Streamline or Oblivion Stutter Remover

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:42 am

Looking at both mod pages, they both look to do the same job, but go about it in different ways. Is my line of thinking wrong on that? Only thing is, Oblivion Stutter Remover was updated a lot more recently than Streamline.

Just trying to decide which one to get, since I can't use both at once.

You can use both at once. You just need to make sure your fps limits for streamline remain within the limits you use for OSR. Or you can just use streamline to bring the fog in closer (so you can reduce your distant grids and gain some fps), manage your FOV, and do stream saves, and turn off the rest of the stuff. That's what I do.

I use both, but turn off streamlines 'streamsmooth' feature.

What I have found to be best is to use both:
Streamline exclusively for it's Streamsave feature (especially as the game's autosave feature tends to cause problems - so turning off all autosaves is a good idea)
And using OSR for everything else.

But OSR doesn't do everything else. Streamsight can help fps significantly, especially if you are using RAEVWD and a lower gridstoload setting. OSR does not do memory purges either.

That's true. Only stated what I am personally using. ;)
Streamsight is something I have switched on and off at times. Not really set on it either way (have to play more I think.)
And I habitually PCB manually, as well as running Clean Up (Keurtee) which is different, but related.

Cleanup sounds like another good one, I'm assuming its compatible with Streamline and OSR as well?

Think I'm going to try Streamline along with OSR, going to read up more on Streamline

Actually it sounds like Cleanup does the same thing as Streamlines streampurge feature, so I would turn that off in streamline to avoid problems.

I use Streamsave (5/50) and Steampurge (4), with OSR (10/30/5/1024). I don't use Streamsight or Streamsmooth, because one looks horrible, and the other is redundant.

Basically, after experimenting with a few other settings (and being a longtime convert of Streamline's), Tomlong's advice turned out to be the best for my setup.

I haven't checked recently if Tomlong has got her new site up including all the flurry of notes.. But one for anyone using both Streamline and OSR...

As mentioned above streamlines fps limits need to be within OSR fps limits (IRC 5-10% inside of OSR settings)

So if you have OSR min FPS at 10, then Streamline min fps needs to be 5-10% above that, say 15

Max fps I believe needs a further consideration. If for example you have OSR max fps at 45, then you would think Streamline max fps just needs to be 5-10% below that, say 42, but streamline also has another setting which adds to its max fps during combat (I think the default is 3). So during combat, if you have streamline max fps at 42 and streamline then adds 3 - streamline max fps then encroaches on the OSR max fps of 45. So for streamline max fps, deduct 5-10% plus the combat adjustment from OSR max fps setting.... Simpler example for clarification below but obviously for those of you with cryogenic freezing methods bolted onto the latest beastly machines nether regions OSR max can be increased to allow a higher streamline max fps

OSR min 10 STR min 15 STR max 38 OSR max 45

*If* you use Streamsmooth, yeah. :) I wouldn't bother, personally. But some do, so it's probably just as well to inform those who might.

Hi Vendayn.

Sorry for high jacking your thread.I don't want to start another Streamline Thread.

I've been away from Oblivion to try out Fallout 3.

As they are both made by the same people do both games use the same game engine?
If so in Fallout 3 there is a similar save game Mod as Oblivion but it's Called CASM.

I found it much easier to use than Streamline, and I was wondering if it was possible to use it with Oblivion?

Thank you for Any information.

James.
