Because Skyrim and Solstheim are both on the same planet and both located in the far north it is normal to assume that there will be ice and snow and mountains and pinespruce/evergreen forests and glaciers. Just as Finland, Iceland, Alaska and Siberia all have similar environments yet are very different at the same time. All listed however are very different in some ways.
As for culture, I wouldn't want it the same except that people of far north places often do have some similarities just because they deal with very similar conditions.
4. Yes, places in the far north all have animals that survive very cold climates well. Like reindeer, moose, bears....so on and so forth. It would be quite funny to see lizards in those places.
5. Who knows.
6. Yes, most places have immigrants.
I can't imagine what could be more exciting than Skyrim. I want to live there. And I imagine I will all next winter after it's release. If I get sick of Skyrim, I'll walk outside and play in the ice and snow.

I always wonder about this, your from Alaska but still seem excited for Skyrim's environment. Were I live there are no mountains, and the forest are not coniferous. I have always like environments like Solstheim the best, pine trees, snow, etc good stuff. But if I live in the Tagia would I be so interested? I did like OB landscapes(though I thought there could have been more variety) even if I can go see deer running around in similar forests not far from my house. And winters can be reasonable harsh here with a lot of snow(this year quite a bit), yet I still am excited for the dynamic snow in Skyrim.
Hmmm, maybe I have answerd my own question...
