Computer Compatible Consoles

It may not won't work because it's selfless: Consoles that are designed to be compatible and played through/with your personal computer.
-Instead of being restricted with a specific controller, third party companies can go nuts with different control schemes.
-This allows motion controlled games compatible with the pc, because the motion tech is a part of the console set.
-You don't need a powerful pc to play, because the console is doing all of the work.
-You could still use whatever resources your pc has if you choose to do so. Want better graphics and textures? Want to modify it? Now you can.
-This is forwards and backwards compatible. You can back up your saves, achievements, and games into your future console/pc.
-You and your friend want to play a game on different console? Now you can through the pc and third party servers. Private servers are allowed.

The basic goal is to unite console players with each other through indiscriminate servers, controllers, and more freedom regardless which console you decided to purchase. What do you guys think? If you have any ideas I would love to hear it!

This would require that any console be compatible with computers and rival consoles - at which point it seems far easier to simply have a computer rather than a console since computers are already relatively compatible with each other, particularly online.

You should go study Computer science and Computer/Electrical/Software engineering and then you can do whatever the hell you want. You'd probably be good with computer science. But from what I notice, the people who end up doing things that your talking about are people who dont need to go to school.

There are technical reasons that make it infeasible as well.
-Instead of being restricted with a specific controller, third party companies can go nuts with different control schemes.

They can to a fair degree already.
-This allows motion controlled games compatible with the pc, because the motion tech is a part of the console set.

They already are compatible with the PC
-You don't need a powerful pc to play, because the console is doing all of the work.

Then you'd have to fork the money for the console. PC + Console = more expensive than a gaming PC.
-You could still use whatever resources your pc has if you choose to do so. Want better graphics and textures? Want to modify it? Now you can.

This would be quite difficult
-This is forwards and backwards compatible. You can back up your saves, achievements, and games into your future console/pc.

Already can be done
-You and your friend want to play a game on different console? Now you can through the pc and third party servers. Private servers are allowed.

This has already been done (XBConnect)

So... what is it? A box you plug in to your PC?

Well there's your first problem, did you know that if you run two graphics cards in SLI they can't share VRAM, because the latency of going through two PCI-E busses and an SLI bridge is way too high? How, then, are you going to get this console to share resources if it's *out*side of the PC? You can have as efficient a port as you like, the space is simply too long to share low-latency memory, and if you can't upgrade *that* then all the upgrades in the world are of seriously limited utility.

It's a nice idea, but like many, ultimately unfeasable.

Nevermind then. Yes, it was simply a console that works with your pc to allow easy third party access.
