The following are qualities she wants her camera to posess:

- Ability to shoot quality photographs in low lighting and indoors.
- Nice Zoom with a decent focus on tiny objects.
- Can easily shoot moving objects, like house pets.
- Great for portraits & group photographs.
- $400 to $700.

Canon is my person favorite brand. Usually anything of theirs is reliable.

Sorry to be the voice of dissent here, but as a long-time Canon user I wish I'd gone with another brand now. They can be okay (in fact they can be very good) but their QA means it's pot luck as to whether you get something excellent or a real lemon. I've had a few of the latter that've cost me a lot of money (and quite a few ruined pictures). I guess I'd be more inclined to go with Nikon or Olympus personally.
