Will Skyrim have proper dynamic lighting?

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:16 pm

I've seen a few things in magazines where it appeared it didn't for most things, but did for some objects in towns. Will the PC version at least have an option where you can use full dynamic lighting? I remember Oblivion was originally going to have more dynamic shadowing effects but it was cut before release for some reason. It seems kind of silly a big budget game in 2011 can't even have something like that.

Option? See signature, it'll tell you all you need to know about what kind of "options" to expect. Mainly, that if you play on PC you have the "option" to mod in anything you like.

What do you mean? There weren't mods for Oblivion or FO3 that let you have dynamic lighting. Even though it was present in the old code.

His sig isn't talking directly about your point. It just comments that Bethesda basically tells us in the end we get what we get and if we want to change it to play on PC. Which in some aspects is fine, others not so much.

To cut straight to the point, the game has full dynamic lighting. It appears to have very new and good lighing technology within. 100% of objects cast direct, realtime shadows that alter depending on light source movement, time of day, etc. You will be pleased.

Problems with modding

1: if the game only supports dx9 not dx11; well then..lame sauce BUT if it has DX11 support but it's not fully utilized but it's "there" and we can fully mod in the effects then OMFG TESSELLATION AND LIGHTING UP MY AAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Dynamic lighting has been around for a decade. A game with this caliber just needs to have it. Having it should be obvious, and only not having it should raise an issue.
