I want to use these mods, any do a better job now?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 4:19 am

Not asking for a load order, I'll muddle through the readmes and BOSS for that. I havent played Oblivion in 8 or 9 months now so I dont know about some of the newer mods that may be hard to search on nexus due to odd titles. This is pretty much what I plan on useing for now (I'll install more textures, quest, companion, and city mods later). I've just spent the last several hours looking up every single mod on this list and making sure I have the newest version. I'm just wondering if I may have forgotten anything that leaps off the page to someone whos eyes aren't bleeding right now. Also with the newer mods that are out, do I have any that could be replaced by one that is known to function better, or perhaps have several replaced by one that has all the functions of several of my mods?
Almost forgot, running GOTY, so I have Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine.

Maybe I'm getting Fallout 3 mixed up with Oblivion, but wasnt there a mod that let Oblivion use all your ram instead of just 2 gigs?

Yep, there is the 4GB patch. Have a look at this thread,

The general consensus is that Operation Optimization is out-dated. You will get better results by using the unofficial patched and pyffi'ing your meshes.

You might want to add Quiet Feet Max. If you don't have a dedicated sound card, this will reduce cpu stress dramatically when there are a lot of actors on screen. I have a 3.0 ghz dual-core, and surprisingly it still made a big difference.

Since you are so interested in thief mods, you should consider using T.I.E. instead of Thief Overhaul. It's a light weight overhaul (only uses vanilla resources) that tweaks gameplay to make thieving more fun and realistic. It makes a lot of changes though, so make sure you read the entire readme. It also comes with its own version of crowded roads and cities.

The Real Swords series of mods also adds some very well done weapons to levelled lists and stores. I find it complements the armamentium mods quite nicely.

Other alternatives to Realistic Levelling are KCAS and nGCD.

Not mentioned by any yet, but you should drop Crowded Roads Revamped and install http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20575 instead. This is the most up-to-date and best working Crowded Roads variant.

Also, you could consider my Enhanced Economy mod. It has some features of interest to a thief character, like making all NPC have twice as much gold (or any other number) available for pick-pocketing.

Thanks for the info, it's been very helpful. And I've found a couple of new mods to try out now.

Dont think I've ever loaded a mod with as many options as "Enhanced Economy" but it looks like it will be well worth it and was actually a painless process.

For the Drop Lit Torches mods, you can replace them with Drop Lit Torches OBSE (I think it's by Strategy Master). Make sure to get Fast Exit 2, and not the original. IIRC Operation Optimisation is not recommended, as it has virtually no effect, and increases the chance of something going wrong. Using the weOCPS and Stutter Remover OBSE plugins is also recommended, weOCPS prevents some crashes, and SR increases performance. Stealth Overhaul Redux is an updated version of SO which removes the in-game menu and equipment keys in favour of a decent ini and more focus on the actual stealth, so it's worth looking into.

Let There Be Darkness is an alternative to Darker Dungeons that makes dungeons pitch black, and effects SI too, as well as having an expansion Let There Be More Darkness, which affects a wide variety of DLCs and mods, so it's worth trying out. Cobl includes Denock Arrows, and is awesome, so I'd recommend that instead too.

I think that's it though. :)

No Lights Flicker is an option in the Bash Patch now... and Denock Arrows is included in COBL, if you're interested in that. You might also want to check out Zumbs' Lockpicking Mod.

Or, as an enhanced alternative to Zumbs Lockpicking Mod, http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=31424. :whistling:

Both are a little different from Blind Lockpicking, but you might like the idea.

I use Blind Lockpicking. It is challenging to be sure - probably for the more masochist gaming style... but I find it more interesting to have some challenge to lockpicking. Many RPers would likely say they would rather have their characters skills & stats do the work for them, but I like having some involvement in the process. What would really be cool is a Thief-style interface which I guess they kinda did with the lockpicking in Fallout 3. The trick is to keep the char skills central while providing some challenge for the player as well...

So anyone do a Thief-style pr Fallout 3-style lockpicking mod yet?

Wow, awesome ideas everyone.
I really did spend hours going over all my "old" mods updating and looking for replacement ones. Turns out I missed quite a few, so thanks again. :)

...but if you count the additional in-game options from EE's setup-menu, where you can manually adjust price percentages or adders for every item type individually for each city and/or each merchant/merchant type, then EE has beats nGCD with several factors :P

(Do you think the "Red Diamond Jewelry" shop should pay 30% more for jewelry 20% more for rings and 15% more for amulets, then open EE's menu and adjust this) :)

If you mean EE, just don't install OOO's Living Economy and it should work without problems

If you mean nGCD... well you should not install any other leveling overhaul aside from Progress
