For example if I am looking for a temple how do i find it? Do I justgo around and click on doors? are things labeled on the map somehow? I don't get it and it's frustrating

Ask people (NPCs) for directions (the "Where is..." topic).

also, most of the important buildings (stores, mages guild, temples) have a different color/design, to make them easier to see. once you learn them then it makes it a bit easier to see them from a distance.

And after you ask people for directions don't forget to check your map. Sometimes you may accidentally pass it, or you have to walk in another direction, so you might have to ask for directions again.

That would work. Tedious, though. And you could well end up being mistaken for a criminal.

are things labeled on the map somehow?

Nope, unless you label them.

Options:

1. What samtam99 said. Any passerby can help you triangulate on anything you're looking for.
2. Temples are identifiable from the outside by their stained glass windows and multi-storey size. That narrows it down. Also note that Arena's cities have wide east-west avenues at regular intervals that go the width of the city, and you can pretty much see everything the city has to offer by traveling these avenues.
3. Temples often have unusual perimeters, so if you see an unusual shape on the map (e.g., a crescent), it's almost certainly a temple. Or a Mages Guild. But mostly they're temples.

While it is true that you can label things on the map there are three ways you can actually do this:

the first is to left click on the map and type it.

the second is to ask people where is . . . , sometimes they will be knowedgable and kind enough to mark it on your map for you.

the third is, if there is a sign outside the door right click on the door and the name will come up on screen and it will also be marked on your map.

Hope that helps
