Self Made Campsites in Skyrim?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 7:29 am

This would make a lot of sense considering how much they are trying to push the "radiant AI' and "radiant story" this time around. In OB there were lots of campsites, but they were all fixed locations that never moved. Imagine if bandits, hunters, and travellers just went out and set up camps every now and then (this happens in RDR too as a random event)

The only trouble is the animation for setup and takedown of camp, but I guess this could be dealt with in the same way that RDR did by not showing this, and by having NPCs set up camp before you enter an area so you never see it appear/disapear.

This is one thing modders can do well. So long as they don't make the damn things only available from that one lazy-ass Three Brothers vendor that works half an hour out of every day. ragerage

I am all for it. I liked the idea of campsites in red dead redemption. but ya it would be cool if you could place your own sent and camp fire anywhere you want. except on a downslope! =)

I like this idea very much, and would be very happy if something like this were in Skyrim.

Did anyone else notice how in the latest Harry Potter they started out with this tiny little tent but by like 30 minutes later, they had this caravan with tables and cots and stoves and like EVERYTHING? ... I know magic is cool but they didn't even try to explain how she pulled tables out of her hat, they just hoped we wouldn't notice... I hope for Skyrim is IF it has these features, that the system makes a lot more sense.

I dunno... I didn't have too much of a problem with it. If you can have a bag of holding or a portable hole (which I believe Hermione has, although I'm not a big Harry Potter fan so maybe I got that wrong), a nondimensional tent isn't too much of a stretch.

At any rate, I do agree that the portable campsites should be kept within reason in terms of paraphernalia.

I'd always wished you could do this. Maybe a purchasable campsite kit, sort of like houses.

PS: Pitching a tent :hubbahubba:

I want a "Travel Chest" that you can place anywhere in the wilderness, and that can be used as safe storage for your stuff. (and no, I don't want to worry about the inconvenient possibility of theft - the chest should be locked and only openable by my key - plenty of those kind of pesky locks in the TES world)

That way, if i want my "home" to be atop a cliff, or in a clearing surrounding a hot spring, or behind a waterfall, I can do that.

I would then also need a placeable map marker that I could fast-travel to so i could always get home, unless the Chest itself could be coded as a location.

You know what, this is one of the best little adittions that have been suggested on this forum.

I wholeheartedly agree. I don't mind using a few [pounds, feathers] to carry some camping gear. Or maybe I can stow it on my trusty mount (mammoth? horse?) or pack animal (elk?). Better yet, maybe I can stow my camping gear in my polar bear ski chariot!

wouldn't it be awesome to set up your camp together with random NPCs I meet (and the evil characters can kill these NPCs while they are sleeping)

I don't really see what pitching a tent has to do with Skyrim...

Why are you playing an RPG if you have no imagination? ;)

Sure I want it. I've described my ideas elsewhere.

Umm yeah I have a vivid imagination, and of course I'm going to pitch a tent when I finally get Skyrim. But this forum is about the game itself.

Though I do like the in-game campsite idea :)
