Anyway to disable console?

Post » Wed Jun 09, 2010 3:49 am

I sometimes hit ` by accident when hitting 1, and it would open the console.

Some people say that opening the console can sometimes prevent achievement registering till you restart the game.

Is there a way to disable the console?

I tried to set the console line in the perf.ini file to 0, on both the default ini in game directory and the normal one in documents\my games\falloutnv

It still opens.

Grab a handy screw driver, nail file, butter knife, ect. Pop the key out, and stick it in a drawer. No more console cheat siren singing your name. Problem solved.

Did you check to see if the Default still has it set to 0? Sometimes that will not take changes. For sure, changing the one in My Documents/My Games/Fall.... will not work as it gets overwritten each time you load the game.

As far as using the console and Achievements, I have not seen any in game issues from this, I still get my Achievements. Now, are they logged at Steam? I don't know as I don't care about achievements. Unless they are going to give me money for them. I will have to check as I have used the console to, well, enhance my game play.

Now, even if there is a mechanism to stop the achievements, just opening the console would not effect that. A cheat command would have to be logged somewhere. Why that would be logged anywhere is beyond me, as this is a single player game. If I set my character to all 9's or 10's with SPECIAL in the console, it matters not one bit to anyone else who plays. These things are more of an issue in Multiplayer MMO's.

It will work if you edit the right file ;)

Fallout.ini gets overwritten, but FalloutPrefs.ini does not and is the one that should be edited.
